Discussion: Powell Accuses Clinton Camp Of Trying To ‘Pin’ Use Of Private Emails On Him

“Powell only used his personal AOL account for personal communications.”

That’s not true. He regularly used it to communication with State Department staff.

He didn’t use it for classified information.

Oh, sheesh, another unnecessary distraction. Hillary really has to just stick with the “it was a mistake, hindsight is 20/20, etc.” and stop trying to rationalize stuff, whether or not there is truth in it or not. It always boomerangs back on her…

Powell always had a thin skin, and he’s escaped blame for many errors. Iraq, for example. He’s as phony as a three dollar bill.

She didn’t try to “use it as an excuse.” The FBI turned up an email to her from Powell recommending using private email. Some Congressional staffer leaked this. She would never have mentioned it, believe me. Her “camp” is not “trying to pin it on him”–He pinned it on himself.

The problem is Colin, that Cheney and Bush 'pinned" the invasion of Iraq on you. Your decision to be a willing mouthpiece for a pack of lies at the United Nations has left a permanent stain on your record, as well as your credibility.

Sorry, General, but you still used your own email account, and we have independent verification of you giving this advice to Secretary Clinton. You and Secretary Rice really need to own up to the fact that you did this.

Except, I believe, she also told the FBI about it. Not sure that the timing was before or after the email from Powell was released…

Anyway, I agree that the email that he sent to her about using his own AOL account for “unclassified emails” would lend credence and now he’s caught with his pants (at least partially) down, so it is embarassing for him.

Colin Powell, your credibility disintegrated when you got up in front of the whole world and knowingly lied --and, yes, it was knowingly – about WMDs. Your opinion here, your “version” of events means absolutely zilch. You amaze me: You had such an illustrious career before joining the GWBush administration and became their whipping boy. Sad. Very sad.

Let’s be clear about all of the details here. Hillary Clinton truthfully answered a question from the FBI about a factor in her decision to use a private server. That answer was illegally leaked to the press (out of context) by Republicans as part of one of their many witch hunts. Now this is being blamed on Clinton even though all she did was tell the truth during an interview with the FBI because not telling the truth would be breaking the law. But, yeah, General Powell. Let’s blame Clinton for this.

I’m unclear why journalists think that using a private e-mail server is somehow worse than turning over your e-mail and security of that e-mail to an entity like AOL and Google who are both happy to read and index your e-mail content for the purpose of serving you ads.

If anybody is going to hack anything I’d be interested in learning what Powell knew about those aluminum tubes and when did he know it?

Maybe you should blame Judicial Watch for leaking all this stuff, Secretary Powell.

So, I"m not sure I see that she was throwing him under the bus: 1) I"m sure she thought (or hoped) that this testimony would NEVER be public, like most FBI investigations, and 2) the record does show some support for the general idea. That said, I suspect that HRC did use the Powell reference to bolster her own claim just in her self opinion, even tho there are differences.

I will say if this is all the GOP has found in the testimony to leak so far, there isn’t any there there…

You got it exactly right, @lizzymom. The Hillary-can-do-no-wrong chorus will claim this is all the media’s fault yada-yada-yada. Bottom line is that she told the FBI and apparently the writer Joe Conason that Powell suggested the separate email account at a dinner party at Madeleine Albright’s. Whether that’s true or not, the server was in place BEFORE the dinner conversation took place. It’s just jaw-dropping to watch how badly she continues to handle this. She needs to fucking get her act together, because I don’t want Trump to be my president. Except now she’s in so deep that it’s hard to know how she’s going to get out. What a mess.

Considering his past lies about the Iraq War, and the email showing that he DID recommend Clinton use private email, I would suggest Mr. Powell keep his mouth shut. His reputation is already close to leaving skidmarks on the bowl.

As far as we know he didn’t use it for classified information. He was never scrutinized like Clinton so he’s free to say what he likes. But as always, the GOPer in Powell shines through. Throughout the email mess no one “blamed” him for anything. A few folks pointed out that he had used a non-official email account but that didn’t provoke endless Congressional investigations. No one blamed a damn thing on Powell. They used his name to point out the partisan nature of the investigations of Clinton.

This is an important point I think a lot of people are missing…both Powell and Rice used separate email accounts and have claimed that they didn’t used it for classified information or even State Department dealings…BUT, no one has actually scrutinized those claims. Yet another double-standard we are seeing.

Ad to that There is no evidence it was hacked, yet the case of Snowden indicates the gov servers were easily hacked and classified info passed on to wiki leaks for all the world to see.

Two things: 1) he’s not the one running for president, and 2) the email and the dinner party both took place after she’d installed the server.
