Looks like the EU should have followed the US Constitution more closely to avoid problems like countries deciding to bugger out of the Union. Although considering this is Europe, their version of the Civil War would have been a soccer match between Team UK and Team EU.
Make no mistake. This is a huge development. The United Kingdom has changed forever. The Brits have voted to damage their own economy.
The reason: xenophobic, anti-immigration populism. Sound familiar?
There are lessons here for us. Let us learn, and learn quickly.
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold…
Dreadful outcome. When jobs start vanishing, as they certainly will, who will they blame? Will the “browns” be blamed when the cost of goods skyrocket?
Another good question: Could Donald “Dumsfeld” Drumpf win here? He could unless we GOTV.
Tragedy. The older people voted overwhelmingly for exit while younger people overwhelmingly wanted to stay. So the older generation decided their children should not have a future because of their fears.
Welcome to Trump world. This could happen here in November if he were to win. Self destruction I to satisfy that mad-as-hell itch. It’s nihilism and true self-interest be damned. I am very sad.
Gotta say, I don’t blame them. One wonders if this crack in the foundation will eventually lead to the unraveling of the entire EU.
I thought that was a crazy stat as well. Dementia must be rampant in Britain.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
I wonder how Scotland feels, after they were warned repeatedly that they would be outside the EU if they voted for independence…and now they’re going to be outside of the EU anyway! Ha, ha, ha ha, ha! Can’t wait to see the scrambling over how to keep British citizens employed on the continent when the full effect of this vote becomes apparent. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
Otherwise, I’m fairly indifferent to whatever perfidious Albion votes for.
P.S. How long before Obama gets blamed for this?
The working class overwhelmingly wanted to leave. Since when doesn’t the left stand for the working class? This is arguably a great victory for the common man, and NOT the wealthy.
Yeah, when it comes to the English, a quote from “Death Becomes Her” seems apt: “These are the days the make life worth living!”
Especially when their currency has dropped to 1985 levels! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
But seriously, the common man, yes, great victory, good for them.
They feel like it’s time for another referendum, almost certainly.
They should understandably try for independence again and remain in the EU. Maybe they can couple with N. Ireland since they also wanted to stay. More likely, the EU will begin to disintegrate because of this idiocy. Nigel “Drumpf” Farange should be kicked squarely in the knackers.
Or the bloodiest and most brutal war in world history. Which Europe had not that long ago. Which is why the European Union was created.
Were you educated in Texas or something?
These sorts of plebiscites are ill-advised. I know it sounds undemocratic, because it is. But momentous decisions like this shouldn’t be up to voters. This is the worst outcome of the “folk theory” of democracy. It’s like holding a plebiscite on something like the Iran Nuclear Treaty.
Apparently at least one country isn’t hot on the idea of a European Union.
Be curious to see if other countries follow, or whether the EU pushes them to crackdown on these dreadful displays of democracy and simply tell their subjects that they’re in and that’s that.
June 23, 2016, the day the Brits elected Donald Trump as President of the United States.
