Discussion: Portman Has 'Real Concerns' About Medicaid Cuts, May Still Vote For Bill

Jesus F. Christ. Here’s another ‘concerned one’. Soon they’ll have to move to new venue to handle the overflow.

He’ll vote for it. Moderates have no spine.

If the final legislation is good for Ohio, I will support it. If not, I will oppose it.

Give me a perk for Ohio and you’ll have my vote. If you don’t, you still have my vote. Leadership!

Ohio is the opioid capital of Murika, his constituents are dropping like flies, and he “may still vote for the bill”.

The spineless / heartless / clueless combo-platter…

There’s not enough Summer’s Eve on the planet to take care of the GOP…

The only concern he has is how he can dodge the town halls, vote for this piece of shit and still get re-elected

But what about the extremely wealthy people who are only getting a 15.8% income tax break on capital gains over $200,000 rather than the full 19.6% break they are morally entitled to, eh? What about them? Why isn’t anybody concerned about them?

It’s an interesting problem for the GOP. If they cut Medicaid, they will piss off, not only many of their constituents, but also most of the major health insurance companies and hospital organizations. Few people know that most of the major health insurance companies have been scrambling to sign up Medicaid managed care recipients for more than a decade now–it’s big business for them. Medicaid also provides a lot of revenue for hospitals.

If the GOP doesn’t cut Medicaid, though, their bill will end up costing more money so they won’t be able to pass it through reconciliation.

So they can’t pass a bill they wouldn’t piss nearly everyone off but, if they don’t pass a bill, they’ll piss off most of their base. I can’t imagine a more deserved dilemma for them.

So where’s:

The main-stream media?

The DNC?

The DCCC?

AARP?

Religious Leaders?

All AWOL…

Do what is right, not what will get you elected Portman.

Well hell Max, they only get a week to respond and the bill text is 140+ pages…

He was “concerned” about the bill but would wait to see it. Now he’s “concerned” about the bill but will wait until the CBO score. Then he’ll be “concerned” about the bill and the score but will vote for it anyway. Let’s hope that the next time he’s “concerned” it will be because he’s about to get his ass kicked when he’s up for re-election.

“I’m very concerned”, Portman intoned, his hand making a carefree jerking-off motion.

If he was still around, Harry would already be drafting a Sternly Worded Letter.

The Cleveland Clinic is desperately trying to formulate a spine for Senator Portman.

Suffice it to say, current efforts have been less than successful. It keeps morphing into something else Portman apparently needs as well.

Where’s the AARP? At the early bird special. They’ll issue a statement about 6 in the morning, after they’ve gotten up and had coffee.

That suggestion is lost on conservatives, who wouldn’t know “what’s right” from a hole in the ground.

Hold your nose and vote, you hypocrite!

“I continue to have real concerns about the Medicaid policies in this bill, especially those that impact drug treatment at a time when Ohio is facing an opioid epidemic,” he wrote in a statement. (Sen. Rob Portman - Russia - OH)

Two things bother me about this faux concern … well three, really:

  1. So, if Ohio wasn’t experiencing a drug addiction epidemic, is he intimating he’d give his support to the legislation and just say ‘fuck off’ to the other states?

  2. Again, what it it weren’t an epidemic but still a decent number (or just ten or two) of Ohioans suffering from opioid addiction – would he say ‘fuck off?’

  3. The sentiment is fake anyway. He’s a Republican, after all.
