Discussion for article #232196
Poor, poor Conservative assholes…they’re afraid that the Pope is going to tell them that Stewardship of the planet is not a license to fuck the place up willy-nilly.
Gasp! Is it possible that his Pope-ness doesn’t give a rat’s ass about our political BS in this country?
So it is finally becoming obvious that the true God of these “Christians” is Mammon ---- except they call it “the free market” and treat it like the Golden Calf.
Rush Limbaugh is the Anti-Christ.
Hippy Pope is best pope.
“At the website of the Catholic journal First Things, a blogger accused the pope of promoting “theologized propaganda” on conservation”
I for one also think the need for clean air, and water is a left wing propaganda stunt. Idiots.
“Pope Francis — and I say this as a Catholic — is a complete disaster when it comes to his public policy pronouncements.”
- Steve Moore, chief economist, The Heritage Foundation.
“Steve Moore - and I say this as a Catholic - is a fucking disgrace as a human being.”
- The Pope.
I’m not a Catholic and I don’t really care much what the Pope has to say, but the conservative freakout over Pope Francis actually being a bit liberal* on certain issues is absolutely hilarious to watch and I hope he keeps this up for many years to come.
*Meaning, in this case, a rejection of Supply-Side Jesus.
I remember when the Right hated Catholics. Telegram from Al Smith to the pope, unpack.
What happens when someone is faced with an unpleasant reality? With not just one, but a series of unpleasant realities?
What happens when someone’s carefully-crafted, lovingly cared-for and meticulously-maintained bubble is popped?
We’re watching what happens, as conservatives react and respond to the Pope. Denial. Anger. Disdain.
Truth has a liberal bias, and I hope this can serve as the first step on the path away from truthiness, towards (at the very least), a grudging acceptance of some inconvenient facts.
Maybe once the encyclical comes out all of the bishops who denied politicians who support abortion rights communion can do the same to politicians who don’t believe in global warming…
I guess the bromides from Heritage and the Koch brothers matter more than the words from the pope.
I like this pope. He gives my Latin-mass-attending, rosary-praying, eating-fish-on-Friday relatives something to complain about besides “the blacks.”
Shorter Heritage Foundation: popes who agree with us are good, popes who disagree with us are bad.
If these conservatives are getting annoyed with Pope Francis …
they would go absolutely totally out of their minds if Jesus showed up!
WOW! Winger faith in their anti-climate change theology is far stronger than their faith in God himself. This should make for some interesting explanations to Saint Peter when they try to enter to Pearly Gates.
Remember that conservative slogan from the Vietnam protest days. You used to see it on bumper stickers “Respect Authority.” Funny how fast that sentiment changes when they don’t like the authority figure.
If we get nothing more out of this papacy than footage of Rick Santorum’s head exploding like a big pus-filled zit, it’ll be enough.
Incredibly un-Christian of me, I know. The irony is not lost on me. But it is on Santorum, so there’s that.
I am not familiar with this “Santorum” of which you speak, so I Googled it.
Oh my!
