Discussion: Pope's Spox: 'Not Christian' Remark Was Not 'Personal Attack' On Trump

Discussion for article #246215

Just once, just once, I want someone to stop backtracking on a comment like this one.

OF COURSE it was an ā€˜attack on Trumpā€™. It is ALWAYS, FOREVER, ALL ABOUT THE DONALDā€¦and if it isnā€™t heā€™ll pretend it isā€¦

I find Trump getting upset about this perhaps the funniest bit.

Just a few days ago he was attacking Cruz for his faith. But when a man, whose duties actually include excommunicating people based on his judgement of their faith, questions Trumpā€™sā€¦oh hell to the no! That cannot stand!!

If the shoe fits Donaldā€¦

Popeā€™s spox:

ā€˜Pope say, Tell Donald, wazza not personal, just bizzah-ness. Pope also say, I all-waysah like Donald.ā€™

The Pope should be used to this kind of nonsense from the absurd American mediaā€¦

This wasnā€™t a walk-back, it was an amplification. Is there anyone on the republican side who hasnā€™t called for building a wall in what passes for an immigration debate on their side of the aisle?

So the Pope is like the MSM too? Not allowed to use fact and precedence to hold one side or the other accountable for itā€™s actions and propositions because that keeps it ā€œfairā€? No wonder Republicans are able to get away with giving our country to the wealthy.

Edit: Especially when candidates are always thumping their chests about their religious credentials!

Any simpleton reading a basic account of the Papal Q&A would have an understanding different from the MSMā€¦

ā€œPopeā€™s Spoxā€¦ā€

Is just me or does the term ā€œspoxā€ grate on anyone else?

Donā€™t they know Americans have no concept of fancy Latin terms like ā€œnuance?ā€

howā€™s ā€œspoksā€ work for you? will be waiting for the reply through you spox. oh shit. i hear teeth gnashing.

Much is being made of American religious leaders flocking (pun intended) to Trumpā€™s support. Keep in mind two things: firstly, most of these leaders are fundamentalists; secondly, many, if not most of these protestant sects do not recognize Catholics as being Christians. They are Papists and are generally shunned until the fundies need their votes to further their Christianist/dominionist agenda. Then, they become ā€œnot real Christiansā€ again. I live in SW FL, and hear these comments regularly in the course of political discussions.

Beat me to it. I was going to go with something like:

The Popeā€™s Excellent Adventures in Politics: Chapter whateverā€¦ in which the Pope learns that The Donald does not do nuance.

Absolutely, all the candidates have called for a wall, and a high percentage of their supporters 90>99% also want that wall, so the Pope was really very much inclusive in his comment.

Francisā€™ comments came hours after he concluded a visit to Mexico, where he prayed at the border for people who died trying to reach the U.S. While speaking to reporters on the papal plane, he was asked what he thought of Trumpā€™s campaign pledge to build a wall along the entire length of the border and expel millions of people in the U.S. illegally.
ā€œA person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,ā€ he said. While Francis said he would ā€œgive the benefit of the doubtā€ because he had not heard Trumpā€™s border plans independently, he added, ā€œI say only that this man is not a Christian if he has said things like that.ā€

How do you interpret that? Sounds like a remarkably direct attack on Trumpā€™s Christianity if he said what the Pope is being told he said.

The spokesman could just as easily have said that His Popeness was referring to all of the Repuglicans running.

I donā€™t mind if it is a personal attack.
Itā€™s just another cut in a death by 1000 cuts.
