Discussion: Pope Francis Urges Leniency For Those In 'Irregular' Living Situations, Still Rejects Gay Marriage

Between two people.

The right of two people to establish a union is inalienable, and government shall recognize each one unquestionably.

My question for Poop’ Francis: “Do you think people in government should use their power to force others to follow the principles of your or any religion? Hmmm?”
Truly, if Frank would send Kim Davis some official-looking Papal Bull annulling all her marriages, demanding she report to the Office of the Inquisition, and banishing her to a nunnery, just for shits and giggles, I might reconsider and actually give little more than a rat’s azz’ about his proclamations.

“New Kind of Pope!” Francis moves the Catholic Church from being 500 years behind the times to 480 years behind the times. Hey, at this rate, in 1000 years the Church will end up in 1978. Maybe they can have a big disco revival!
Do they honestly believe that anyone in the developed world - or most of the rest of the world - gives a flying fuck anymore about their prohibitions against divorce (especially in the new Catholic wonderlands of Africa and Asia, where the AIDS rates among the faithful, married, straight couples are running rampant due to extra-marital sex among the Catholic flock)?
Oh, and I loved Frankie’s recent comments about same-sex marriage, where he said:
“There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family.”
Yes, Frankie, there ARE grounds for the comparison of same-sex marriage to opposite-sex marriage: the Obergefell v. Hodges decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 26, 2015. It doesn’t matter one damned bit what your homophobic, misogynist, pedophile-enabling church thinks. We don’t need your validation for our rights. Screw you, and the child-raping priests you rode in on. “New Kind of Pope”, my ass!

It’s way easier on the soul to remain with God and chuck this lost Church…

Wow. I’m an agnostic (though I have a Catholic extended family) so I have no connection to the Church.

But I think the comments above are incredibly churlish. This is a remarkable document which attempts to reconcile the conservative “black and white” 5th century interpretation of the Gospels and 21st century realities of family life in the Americas and Europe.

The comments reflect an “all or nothing” approach to advancements that would make the conservative bishops smile. Sometimes real change takes time. Rejecting incremental changes – though this one is far from minor increments – and insisting on getting home NOW is consistent with how many of us approach our politics these days, but ultimately doomed to failure.

Are you talking about the Church eradicating the old religions 2000 years ago or correcting what they’ve left us with today?

Pope Francis insisted that individual conscience be the guiding principle for Catholics negotiating the complexities of sex, marriage and family life in a major document released Friday that rejects the emphasis on black and white rules for the faithful.

Moral relativism…from the Catholic Church?? Conservatives must be wigging out…well, more than usual.

He insisted the church’s aim is to reintegrate and welcome all its members.

The financial situation at the Vatican must be more dire than I had thought.

Exactly:thumbsup

The Church has needed a solid Jesuit for eons. Finally admitting that contraception is a personal choice which is driven by one’s own conscience is as The Donald is often heard to emote, “uuuuuge”! The rad trads (radical traditionalists) will have a major fit since, this might mean, that they will have to
think for themselves and not take out the CCC to see if they are walking that narrow path to glory.
