But not to the United States – we’re full already. Try China, maybe, or India - they’ve got lots of room.

I’d like to put Pompeo in a federal cell. Bars no matter where he goes.

“If waters rise — I was just in the Netherlands, all below sea level, right?” Pompeo said. “Living a wonderful, thriving economic situation.”

Bad example.

The Netherlands has taken climate change seriously for decades and are probably the most advanced country in the world when it comes to preparing for any climate related catastrophic event. But here in the good ole US of A? Still denial from the top levels of government and a gag on any experts who believe in science.

Sure thing the climate migrants should move to his home state of Kansas and deal with the recent flooding and potential crop failures.

“Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s got a solution to avoiding the harms of climate change: Just live somewhere else.”

Have you seen real-estate prices on Mars?!

Hmmm… I could swear that is exactly what the migrant caravan from Central America was trying to do…

“If waters rise — I was just in the Netherlands, all below sea level, right?” Pompeo said. “Living a wonderful, thriving economic situation.”

“The world will be successful. I’m convinced,” he continued. “We will figure out responses to this that address these issues in important and fundamental ways.”

Dude. Climate change is about much, much more than picking up and moving (assuming everyone has that option to begin with) or engineering ways to stay dry as sea levels rise. This is already affecting how (and, soon enough, if) we’ll grow food for ourselves, how much longer those nations dependent on the oceans for food will be able to rely on them, etc., etc., etc.

And as for that bit about The Netherlands: I note in passing that if the Dutch have such a good thing going, the government might take a good, hard look at New Orleans and maybe think about helping them live “a wonderful, thriving economic situation,” too. It’d be a really good warm-up for what’s coming down the pike the rest of this century.

You think migration from the south across the southern border is “bad” now? Just wait for climate diaspora.

This is the result of a massive failure of a number of social institutions who give credence to the observation that ANYTHING can be supported if one’s paycheck depends on it.

That’s why the concept “Profiles in Courage” was introduced:

So that people who took a stand for the people would not back down just because they knew that some stooge would replace them.

Here is the thing:

YES, one can reason to oneself, "Why should I do ANYTHING?..they’ll just run someone else to replace me." And that would be correct. But what if there was a body politic who would be wise to the stooge AND SAY SO?

We have been so busy Amusing Ourselves to Death, that too many people simply do not understand the reasoning at all of Profiles In Courage
