Discussion: Pompeo Will Pull Visas Of Int'l Criminal Court Staff Probing Afghan Troops Abuse

But he told reporters Friday that the investigation would be a threat to U.S. rule of law.

Sort of like the Nuremberg Trials were a threat to German sovereignty I guess.

Iā€™m so glad I live in a country that values truth and justice. No wonder all the other countries in the world admire us more than ever.

Why stop there? How about sanctions, cut off their access to the banking systems, etc.? Issue Interpol Red Notices, so they get picked up every time they cross a border.

Use your imagination, Pompeo! We must stop at nothing to protect American Security!

There is a clear consensus among (non-insane) members of the international community that the ICC was never the slightest threat to US sovereignty. Because its statutes only kick in if a credible investigation fails to take place, the ICC only adjudicates:

  • potential war criminals from parts of the third world without functioning court systems
  • war criminals from past conflicts where the parties have agreed to cede some jurisdiction to the ICC for the specific matters in question (eg some tribunals for th wars in the former Yugoslavia)

Bolton, on principle, doesnā€™t want any constraints on American power. Anywhere. Ever. Even extraordinarily weak ones like the ICC. Apparently heā€™s fine with murderous maniacs living their lives out in comfort if he gets that mild victory

Excuse me, Mr. Secretary, but what about just prosecutions?

So then should an American soldier in Afghanistan commit a rape then theyā€™re safe from the clutches of the evil ICC?

Un-fucking-acceptable.

Yes.

This resistance is of a piece with our soldiers never serving with UN peacekeeping operations on the grounds that we donā€™t want our soldiers taking orders from a non-U.S. military officer. Paranoid and dumb.

Good comment, but I think you mean cede.

I agree with you as far as you go but letā€™s not pretend the awareness of guilt is limited to Bolton alone.

Both parties, Republicans and Democrats, think this way. It is a ā€œbi-partisanā€ American sickness, and itā€™s not limited to our so-called ā€œleaders.ā€

America First. We will answer to no one, and be completely free from any responsibility for our actions.

Itā€™s so easy to see why so much of the world hates the US and its criminal officials. This is nothing but pure lawlessness sanctioned and fostered by the Trump Crime Administration. Get ready for the US atrocities to start in Venezuela. That poor country is now realizing that having a lot of oil means being attacked by the United States. Maduro will suffer the same fate as Saddam Hussein; hiding like an animal until captured and tried in a show trial. But, the US will have plenty of cheap gas, and thatā€™s all that matters.
