I look at these people managing to survive in the Trump adminstration–Pompeo chief among them, but let’s not rule out Mulvaney, Miller, Conway, etc–and I see the future of the establishment GOP as maintained by the cashflow of the Mercers, Adelsons, et al. Pompeo’s a born-again horror, of course, but he doesn’t need popular support when he has the backing of the GOP billionaires. Look where he’s gotten to on the basis of what, exactly? Political savvy? Experience? Charisma? Hardly.
