“He kept saying he really wished someone would take care of the problem for him, but that’s not asking.”

He’ll be asked this question during his Congressional Approval session…under oath. He better come up with a better answer than this one.

Pompeo Mum On Report That Trump Asked Him To Get Comey To Back Off Russia Probe

I thought it was going to be an interview with his Mother.

The limitation that it is anything Pompeo considers improper leaves a vast array of demands that Trump could make that would horrify the rest of us.

So he doesn’t remember and then offers an overall value judgment that everything Trump ever said was fine. One of those conversations where you realize there’s not much point in drawing it out.

“Trump complained about then-FBI Director James Comey’s work overseeing the Russia probe and asked if him if he could get Comey to back off the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn…”

DING! DING! DING!

Why is the press fixated on Trump firing Comey, when THIS is the obstruction of justice?

POTUS asked the DCI and DNI to get the FBI “to back off” a legal investigation.

This is prima facie.

I’m watching this and find Pompeo to be squirming a bit, equivocating a lot, and attempting to use humor to distract from answering the questions. He is not attempting to paint himself as independent from Trump at all. That should be terribly worrisome for all of the senators, but I suspect he will be confirmed.

The framers of our constitution must be rolling in their grave that it is possible for the members of a constitutionally elected executive to behave like the members of a criminal enterprise.

"He’s never asked me to do anything that I considered remotely improper.”

Of course, the question isn’t about Pompeo and what he considers improper or proper. The question is what Trump said - so that those out of Trump’s orbit can determine whether it was improper or proper.

I cannot guess the number of improper requests Pompeo might have gotten - requests which now considers fine and dandy.

“I’m not going to talk about the conversation.
I don’t recall what he asked me precisely in the conversation I’m not going to talk about…
I talk with him a lot.
But, I specifically recall he has never ever ever asked me to do something that I would consider remotely improper.”

So: Not going to talk about it except to talk about it enough to say it was all A-OK. “Nothing ever that I’d consider remotely improper. Now, up close improper - yes, of course. But seen from a very remote distance I could not tell if it was improper. Although, 92.5% of adults and children would have no question about it being incredibly improper. But me … not so much.”

If there was nothing improper about the conversation, why not just answer the question? The question wasn’t whether he could recall precisely what the Dotard said or precisely what he said. And the fact that he didn’t consider what he was asked to do “remotely improper” is not helpful information, not without knowing what he was asked to do. So, Mikey, what were you asked to do?

Sure, Mike. I would bet that your bar is particularly low here, amirate?
