Discussion: Polls Close In Illinois As Gov. Rauner, Rep. Lipinski Hope To Hang On In Tough Primaries

Alrighty. Let’s do this!

This primary is important - but not as important as soundly defeating Rauner in November. I am hopeful that any of these Democrats can beat the arrogant, evil, incompetent governor we have now. (We will have to work hard, though, as Rauner will try to again buy his way into office.)

Berrios is one to watch as well. I suspect he’ll hang on but I anecdotally hear people going for Kaegi.

Looks like this may end up pretty one sided for Pritzker. Carrying the U of I campus is not going to be enough for Biss.

Looking like Lipinski. Ugh.

The Republican Party as we knew it no longer exists.

She’s closed the gap a little from 5% -> 4%. But are there enough left to count? I doubt it.

She’s cut his lead almost by half

Please, please, please let Marie Newman pull this out.

I expected it to be closer between Biss and Pritzker, didn’t you?

I thought it might be closer but when Pritzker first entered the race I figured it was his to lose. Kennedy never had a shot. While he seems nice enough, he’s a charisma black-hole.

79% of precincts reporting, Lipinski still up by 1800 votes (out of 74,500 cast so far)

Holy cow, Marie Newman has jumped into a 1600 vote lead!!! WTF 86% reporting

Fucking NYT–that seems to have been a reporting error. It’s been corrected. Now Lipinski has his lead back. Shit.

I have to say, I was incredibly disappointed in both Biss and Kennedy in the Dem debates — they came off as shrill and whining, doing very little except attacking Prtizker with all of the usual far-left buzzwords and bogey-men (“corporatist,” “establishment,” etc.). Even worse, they did the same thing that Sanders did to Clinton — they also tried to smear him with right-wing smears (“part of the Chicago machine;”. “Madigan’s candidate,” etc.). No joke — they sounded like they were auditioning for jobs in Rauner’s commercials in the fall. Pritzker was always the prohibitive favorite, with good reason, but I think it turned a lot of people off that even in a primary, Kennedy and Biss went very negative very early and stayed there.

Going back to Chris Kennedy for a moment; Why/how the fuck did he win little Hardin County?
