Discussion: Poll: Sanders Is Most Popular Senator Among Constituents; McConnell Is Least

If Bernie was just a little younger he’d be the indestructible candidate right now.

Trump: I would kill for McConnell’s numbers. I just did the Killing but it hasnt helped.

Great, but will it make a difference in the voting booth?

Let’s see, a senator who does principled things to benefit his constituents and the country is popular with his constituents, while one who cares nothing for the Constitution and only acts for the benefit of himself and his Republican cohort is unpopular. Whoda thunk?

Who cares? Bernie will be re-elected, unless he has a stroke and is ga-ga before the next time he runs. McTurtle isn’t up for re-election until 2020. The poll, and the article (and this comment) are wastes of time.)

and yet Kentucky continues to return it’s best and brightest to the Senate… Pinhead Mitch and Clown Boi…

They must have called mostly R’s to get those numbers for Mitch. Because…if you are a Dem, an Indie or anything besides a conservative R, you are NOT considered by McConnell to be one of his constituents. In fact, he considers you the enemy, especially if you are liberal and the way he talks about liberals when he is in KY, we are the enemy. Then he has the audacity to say, with a straight face, every reelection campaign, that Washington insiders are the problem…when he is, in fact, the ultimate Washington insider. He is so fucking gross.

And yet, they’re equally likely to be re-elected.

Go. Fucking. Figure.

McConnell: Sanders sells pipe dreams and I get the results.

I don’t consider the poll a waste of time. It is good national news for us. McConnell has been horribly destructive in the Senate and is responsible for putting Gorsuch on the Court. The fact that he is so widely disliked in deep red Kentucky makes me very happy.

They didn’t poll McConnell’s actual constituents. They only polled regular citizens from Kentucky. His actual constituents are billionaire Republican donors. They love him a lot.

Yes. I read Bernie’s planning on hitting the road as the election approaches. This is the kind of help we’re gonna need.

I wouldn’t be so sure about McConnell. If we can actually find a good candidate to run against him, this will be the best chance we’ve had in a long time. Hard to say what the landscape will be in 2020 but if we have a Dem wave in 2018 that will help.

Mind you that conservative R voters here in KY are perfectly fine with the stolen SC seat, but aside from that, he is more hated here in KY than ever before and that’s really saying something.

The excuse has always been not to give up a Senior Senate seat to a newbie. It’s a bullshit excuse but the main one the last 20 years.

I know he is coming to Omaha to campaign for the Democratic Mayoral candidate latter this month, which will hopefully boost turn-out for the May election.

It’s hard to believe that Orrin Hatch has a net positive approval rating, given how much he’s done to hurt his constituents over the past 40 years.

Yet he’s going to run again, and he’ll probably win. Great article in today’s Salt Lake Tribune about why Jon Huntsman has an uphill battle if he chooses to take Hatch on next year:

While every bit helps, the elder Dems need to encourage younger Dems to step up into leadership roles. I want to see and hear more from the 40- and 50-something crowd and not have the party rely so much on Pelosi, Sanders and Clinton.

He would say that too while giggling like a school girl.

Bernie is so popular because he has name recognition from the primary. Most folks can’t name both of their own Senators, much less one from another state.

He also benefits from never having had to make hard decisions from a leadership position. He has the freedom to criticize and stand on principle without the need to compromise.

Add those two together, plus the general distaste for all things Democratic on the left, and he’s popular.
