Mexicans are some of the most industrious, hardworking people I know. They add vibrancy and strength to the economy, and serve a vital purpose in many work sectors.
But I really wish theyâd quit pushing cilantro on our youth. And me. Sheesh.
Well, this confirms that Americans are indeed truly and frighteningly stupid. Climate change will solve their âissueâ with immigration.
"An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll conducted shortly before the shutdown began "
Shortly before. Not now. Now people are worried about the effects of the shutdown. Iâd bet immigration is way down the list today.
Oh, and by the way, there are hardly any elections in 2019. What matters are the issues in 2020.
Is this a pick-up from the Onion? âI can tell the economy from the semis on the roadâ. âIf you look back at history, the economy did best when the government couldnât get in the wayâ. Maybe everyone ought not be allowed to vote".
By then the most important issues will be Democrats finally make a move to ban incandescent light bulbs for good, and Dems want to take away your canned tuna because of cruel trawling net practices.
I can definitley see the base getting all riled up and spitting venom over light bulbs and canned tuna. Or maybe the fact George Soros put all the drive-in movie theaters out of business. Yeah, itâs a thing.
Small price to pay for churros

Statistics
There are people who have strong feelings on immigration because the issue gave us Drumpf.
And no poll story would be complete if they didnât interview some shit kicker from Iowa or Texas. This one has both.
Yep, glad the deplorables arenât worried about the economy, since thatâs going to plunge them into destitution 10 times quicker than a migrantâŚ
I donât know where you live, but I donât think that light bulbs and tuna will be core issues in the states with important numbers of electoral votes.
As a registered Independent, I, for one, think âimmigrationâ is an important issue. Properly managed immigration is a boon. Poorly managed immigration is a disgrace. So fat this century, neither party seems to have a handle on the situation.
Restoring, and improving temporary work permits will go a very long way toward stemming the âillegal immigrationâ that has Republicans so wrought into permanent hissy fits. Providing a clear path to citizenship would appease many Democrats.
Living for almost 50 years in Baja Arizona, I never noticed a problem until after 9/11, when the rest of the US, especially people who live far, far from the Border, went batshit crazy with fear and hate. Yesterday, we went down to Sierra Vista, a medium-sized burg, and on the way back, had to process through a totally unnecessary âBorder Patrol Checkpoint.â Having to tell some guy in jackboots that, yes I am a citizen does not make me feel secure.
And neither do those asshats who want to set up a line of machine guns at the border and mow down the invading hordes of ravening furiners. (Most despicable of all, ate the other fat bald old men who loudly proclaim that they âknow a Hispanicâ who âdoesnât like illegals either.â)
Itâs a false flag op by the Chinese, the true purveyors of Chinese parsley a.k.a. coriander a.k.a. cilantro.
That puts a different slant on the issue.
Been feeling that way since November, 2016.
90% of those polled answered âimmigrationâ only because itâs been plastered on their TeeVee screens for the last month.
Only 35% support any âWallâ
You really think so? Ever wonder why the goopers have obstructed any meaningful immigration reform for decades? Who benefits from having cheap labor with no resort to legal protections? - The same people who hold the leashes of the goopers, their corporate masters, ahem, patrons.
This is the key takeaway here.
â49 percent mentioned immigration in an open-ended question as one of the top five problems they hoped the government addresses in 2019. By contrast, 27 percent mentioned immigration in December 2017â
So just like practically everything else in modern politics the right-wing has controlled the narrative and gotten the public to care about the issues THEY think the public should care about. Make no mistake this change is not because people suddenly are effected by this on a daily basis. Itâs because they have been subject to a constant message from the right that this is important, made by both their politicians and a media that is easily manipulated by the right-wing to spread itâs messages.
Even in a year the Dems win big in elections, they still can not control the national narratives! This is one of the greatest structural long term hurdles the left faces, their almost complete lack of a communications strategy. When your opponent can âinsertâ issues into the ânational conversationâ at will, issues that play into right-wing identity politics, you have a problem. The Left needs to admit it has a problem here and actually start to do something about it for once!
I do really think so.
The Democrats had an opportunity to legislate a âfixâ and did not. Perhaps I was expecting too much.
The Republican Propaganda Department saw an opportunity to whip up frenzy, and ran with it.
I am hoping that depriving the corporations of cheap slave labor by demanding e-verify or some other mechanism will handle that end (but it is only a hope). The problem there is that campaigns have become so expensive that, with only a few startling exceptions, politicians of both parties depend on the same class of wealthy donors for funding, and we know where that leads. (Pay for play happens all the time, and everywhere.)
The strength of America derives from us being a people composed of citizens whose ancestors came from every other place on the planet. The weakness of America stems from our being unable to understand that fully. If we did, both the Parties would be leaping toward workable solutions.
But I am an unabashed idealist.
Do what exactly?
