I’m sorry, but I don’t think I’ll ever get over my morbid fascination with Trump voters’ reasons for voting for him. So, there was the Trump University scam and numerous instances of stiffing his contractors, but Hillary Clinton was the one who could not be trusted? She was honest about owning her mistakes, Trump never has been. People are so selective with the evidence they choose to see or believe.

I’d guess mainly because they see that the emperor has no clothes and don’t believe him and his followers saying that he does.

Obviously. Except for the fact that this isn’t true, and I’ve got about three million pieces of supporting evidence.

How much effort is expended by these people in blocking out all sources of factual information, and twisting what little gets through the filter into support for their existing worldview?

It never fails to amaze me how good humans are at ignoring information that scares them, that threatens their self-image, and/or their worldview. Of course on the flipside, betting on the rational good sense of the American people used to be an article of faith for many experts in the punditocracy and it turns out that was a delusion, as well.
