Discussion: Poll: McConnell Widens Lead Over Dem Lundergan Grimes

Has Nate been doing the numbers on this race?

Pop quiz:
How many votes will McConnell need to drum up?

I don’t know about Arkansas and Kentucky, but in Michigan the amount of blanketed airways on local stations in the last week by the likes of the Koch Bros., their affiliated groups and Joe Rickets’ millions, making up shit out of thin air, is beyond ridiculous. I counted 20 political ads within a space of a half hour on one local station, with 4/5ths of those ads from rightwing groups. If this continues until November…No one will be watching local TV in Michigan anymore, out of pure disgust, except for football and hockey maybe…and that’s a good thing.

The local Fox affiliate here also has set pieces out of Washington by some hired gun posing as a DC reporter, to go after the President on any policy proposal he’s addressing in the country thereby linking any and all politics to his administration…They then break for a commercial that features non-stop rightwing political ads, with perhaps one or two interspersed from some leftwing advocate group.

The set pieces on this Fox station out of DC are framed as if he’s a local news journalist stationed in the DC area to cover news for the station. Its intentionally deceptive. Wouldn’t be surprised if the idiot was standing in front of green screen of the Capitol Building. But the wingnuts are counting on those low-information voters and the aid of rightwing toadies in the news business to accept the huge ad dollars buying up airtime on the station, while they ignore their ethical responsibility not to accept ads that mislead or are blatantly false…and the public is expected to sort out the lies and twisted half-truths on their own. Some serious advocacy group or set of Democratic lawyers needs to confront these local stations accepting ads that blatantly lie to the public and get them to stop for once.

BTW, Joe Rickets’ #1 spending target is against Gary Peters for US Senate.

I looked at the Marist/NBC poll in July for Michigan…and frankly, I wasn’t impressed even when it had the Dems up in the polls. Their numbers seem real weird. Especially when it came to how well they thought Gov. Snyder was doing in the State. He’s very much disliked. The idea that Terry Lynn Land was fairly well known throughout the State too, was kind of a joke. Their demographics included 80% white folks, less people from Wayne County where Detroit is situated, and a bunch of questions about the President’s favorability before asking about candidates running this year for office. I’m no statistician but their numbers and series of questions going from the President to local races, just from an intuitive sense, strikes me as odd. Though that may be how its generally done…they should just ask about the candidates running this year, and then see where the candidates stand with the public.

Since you’ve just knitted this sock puppet, and you are currently posting, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you this question: Why do you waste so much of your time and effort posting here over and over again just to be banned.

Seriously, are you getting paid for each response from some Koch Brothers astroturf organization. I’m thinking that you must, because it is utter insanity that you put this much effort into such a frustrating and utterly ineffective activity.

If in fact, you don’t get paid, then it’s even sadder, as you clearly have deeper psychological issues that play out in places like this. Wouldn’t it be so much more satisfying for you to go over to Red State and congregate with like minded people, reinforcing your fantasy world? Or perhaps there is a deep streak of masochism in you that requires and enjoys abuse and rejection.

In any case, I ask these questions seriously and I;ll give you half an hour to formulate an answer before I ban this latest sock puppet.

You know what, I’m even going to up your trust level for the half hour so that you don’t bump up against the posting limit, I’m so interested in your response…however, post your drivel elsewhere and it’s into the garbage with you…

This is clearly the result of the switch from registered to likely voters that the pollsters announced they would make closer to the election. It may thus look like ā€˜momentum’ on McConnell’s part–but if they discount Democrats’ efforts to get out the vote, they might be wrong.

Crude, but accurate regarding the attitude of red-state voters.

People, please, do not believe these polls. Consider the sources: NBC! This poll has more holes in it than Swiss cheese! The race is tied! Do you really think Grimes dropped 8 points and McConnell only 3 after last week?

Think!!! NBC received their data from KYGOP! NBC works with WSJ. NBC is the network that thinks Todd is the best replacement for Gregory! Grimes is doing just fine.

How do I always miss Beej’s meltdowns?

On second thought, it means the comment system here is working, LOTS better than it ever did at Thatother Post.

Say buhbye to Beej for me.

Uh…no, that’s not what ā€œone point smaller leadā€ means. Check the actual poll at the link: McConnell 47-39 with LV, 45-38 with RV. Though the Libertarian is polling at 8 and 9% respectively, and it seems a little dubious he would get that much. But then I suspect his votes would be split.

Good questions all Mike! But I don’t think that beej has any answers or is able to comprehend the primal urges that drive his behavior. the brain of a sociopath just is not wired to be introspective.

You convinced me. NBC statisticians hard at work at spiking the football.

Many of us have seen this play many times now. I don’t doubt for a moment that with more ungodly amounts of money in politics, pollsters have been co-opted into the game well in advance of the final election results in order to help push whatever narrative some corporate business exec. on the 75th floor of some NYC high-rise and media conglomerate decides is best for their own business objectives.

Let’s see them poll Net Neutrality, the Fairness Doctrine, Citizens United affecting campaign finance laws, and Income Inequality for example. Nope. Won’t see that as its not in the cards, particularly the ones they choose to hold.

Why come here to yammer republican rubbish, when you should be among your fellow butt-scratching yahoos, awaiting the party’s resurgence…

Apparently Sam Wang of Princeton was more accurate than Nate the last time around.

Valuesvoter has nothing better to do in his sad sorry life. He really should go on over to redstate where folks might care about what he’s got to say.

I’m certainly not any kind of expert on KY politics but, c’mon-a Democrat beating the Sen Maj. leader in a red state? Not gonna happen.

As I suspected, the sock puppet didn’t even have the guts to respond. My guess is that it doesn’t get paid, because if it did, it missed a chance to generate a few responses.

Sad life for that one.

That would be ordinarily a lock. Except the A. McConnell isn’t the Senate Majority Leader… he would be if republicans were kn the majority in the Senate but they aren’t. Well, not yet. And B. there are a whole bunch of disaffected people in KY with respect to McConne;;'s obstructionism and disrespect of Obama personally. The set of pools referenced in the article are fairly biased. The race is closer than those polls indicate.

Uh, no. Harold Ford is neither a Dem nor a Repub. He’s self-serving piece of shit that would sell ANYONE out to advance himself. Whenever I see him on my teevee, I immediately change the channel for fear of the safety of my set. It could potentially end up with my foot in the screen.

Grimes has always had a tough road ahead of her in this race, she’s a woman, she’s up against the Minority leader and, worst of all, IT’S KENTUCKY. There’s only but so far she can go in this race where Dems are pretty much relegated to the status of DFH’s. Fortunately, McC has stepped in it more than once so I’m not really worried on this.

Georgia, on the other hand, is unlikely. Nunn is a very good Dem for that state but - it’s GA. Not as bad as WVA but still - pretty bad…

I don’t get it. Why would you have MORE hope for GA and less for KY? Nunn’s chances are slimmer than Grimes’.
