Discussion: Poll Finds Clinton Losing Ground Against GOPers In 3 Key States

Discussion for article #238649

Could it have something to do with the fact that we are getting nothing but GOP coverage the last few months? these polls are hardly believable at the moment. Not that I think that she will run away in the aforementioned states but still to far out.

Excellent news for Clinton supporters. Attacking an established favorite is a time-honored American tradition. Clinton will be thrilled to let someone else sit in the crosshairs for a while.

I have never understood the media’s worshipful attitude towards the Q poll. Its record, especially well away from elections, is frequently dismal… they were all over the place in 2012, including handing key swing states such as these to Romney until very late in the cycle.

Maybe the media loves them precisely because they generate drama.

What exactly is supposed to have happened to cause this sudden nose-dive in Clinton’s support? GOPers blathering about Benghazi and emails?

Or the fact that summer polling is almost always useless, since the people who answer tend to be disproportionately angry and old, to say nothing of the problems of polling so far from the election?

No Bernie results, but they have Trump info?

To be fair, Hillary ignored the media, so the media ignored her.

I’m not saying she was totally wrong in her strategy, but this should be expected to some degree…

While this should keep Clinton on her toes (which is a good thing), there’s not really much to see here. Summer polling nearly a year and a half out is hardly going to reflect actual results (a Democrat losing Colorado by 10? Right.). That these polls are more noise than signal is irrelevant though when the media needs something to feed their lazy horse-race narratives that they so love.

Pollsters examined 1, 236 boxed cats over the weekend and found 18% dead on first examination and 32% dead on the 2nd peek inside their boxes concluding either a major space time disruption or a need for cat food and water.

This far away from the election, the polls really mean “Who have you heard the most about recently?”

Also: Drudge is still a thing?

To be fair a PPP poll done 6 days ago had Hillary beating every republican candidate in Virginia. This poll is definitely an outlier.

Remarkably, the 3rd exam showed only 20% dead. It appears they shift states while unobserved.

Two of these GOP candidates will not even be an issue in the coming election - possibly even three of them.

The question remains: Who cares?

Just 6 days ago a PPP poll on Virginia showed her beating them all in a reasonable manner … over Rubio by 4; Walker by 5; Bush by 8. Clinton has done nothing so bad, nor have any of the GOPers done anything so stellar in the last week to account for such a swing.

You are right, these polls are meaningless this darn early.

These polls this early in the campaign season don’t amount to a hill of beans. Start looking at polls two months before the election to get an ideal of where things stand, but not even up to election day are the polls right. How many times do we see the polls saying someone has a 3 to 7 point lead in the polls, only to lose by 5 points.

I would like to see Hillary grab some progressive issues and start hammering them the way Sanders is doing. She isn’t getting a lot of press because she always way over polls and watches the way the wind blows rather than coming clean and telling us where she stands from the get go. Americans would like to hear what she is for, what she will do, and hear some real conviction rather than what she thinks will do her the most good. Does she have real beliefs or is she just trying to mirror the polling?

Good. I’ll catch major shit but the best thing that can happen to America is a President Jeb or Walker…and a GOP’er Congress. Walker is my fave unless Cruz or Trump can get in…that would be great.

The Democrats lost the political battle a long time ago. They did it the classic way…they didn’t fight back. I don’t think they ever will. But after 4 years of a GOP’er led America…particularly with the current GOP stock…Democratic ineptitude won’t matter. The USA will become a pariah with it current allies after it abrogates the Iran deal and kids from Main streets all over are going to die for Israel. No one will ever form a coalition with us and our position in the world will plummet. The rich will get richer and do it easier…while the working class will work harder and go nowhere. ACA will be history and Ginsburg will be replaced with a wing nut and SCOTUS will become a right wing clearing house. The Military will be abused ( here and “over there” ) for political gain and the GOP will go into overdrive mode in what they do best: Take things away from you.

Then will come 2020…

Given how she’s handled it so far my guess is Sec. Clinton is at about 60 to 65 % unfavorable and Sanders fucks the Democrats over with a third party run.

Apparently the weighting of the polls was 1:1 Democratic/Republican, when of course the electorate leans much heavier Democratic in Presidential elections.

Quinnipiac has lost its mojo. Wrong way too often in the past.

Do you think Ms. Clinton has to actually do something bad? She’ll be painted that way and most of the Media will go with it. Another recent study looked at how the media questions folks about Clinton vs the GOP’er field. The MSM, not FOX, questions her within GOP’er frames. “Do you think she is trustworthy”… ( we all know where that come from ) but no such questions are asked of ANY other candidate. Unless she learns how to deal wit this they are going to take her down. This same media has tried to beat her up before…and after all that practice they are much better at it now.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took an even greater hit than Clinton in the Quinnipiac poll, however.

So, at TPM what trumps coverage of polling on Trump is coverage of negative polling on Clinton.
