Discussion: Poll: Biden Has Biggest Appeal In The General, Remains Third Among Dems

Discussion for article #239841

It looks like most people like plain-speaking candidates, even if they occasionally offend or put their foot in their mouth. Certainly the politically-correct, micro-aggression crowd has become tiresome and a clear impediment to actually discussing the nation’s problems.

Clinton could improve in this respect. In the video with BLM, she told them what many in this forum were saying, basically “get a plan”. It was good advice, it was gutsy (for Clinton) to give it, and it improved my opinion of her ability.

Republicans picked McCain in 2008 and Romney in 2012 because General Election polls showed they had the best chance.

At this point, is a poll like this about anything but tribalism and name recognition, with a slight addition of positive/negative to the name recognition?

They did have the best chance. It just wasn’t a good chance. Biden is a good chance.

Oh, I’m sure that were he to become a credible candidate, the ensuing mud bath would quickly have Joe’s numbers at or below Hillary’s. All those gaffes would resurface in a heartbeat, and a half-dozen pseudo scandals would hit the fan.

My question of Hillary at this point is: would enough women come out to vote for her to make up for the Democratic dudes that won’t, or the Republican dudes that might not have made it to the polls otherwise? She won’t win the personality contest – even or especially against a doofus like Jeb. Can she get people to vote in a low-energy campaign?

He’d have had a good chance if he announced early. Don’t think so now.

Quinnipiac poll…

Sample consisted of 666 Republicans(insert comment here) and 647 Democrats.

Nowhere near what the real electorate will be. And repubs still lose to all comers…

Move along, nothing of worth here…all noise, no signal.

So show us the actual poll and not just your goofy interpretation Catlyn. I wonder how meaningful Biden’s numbers are since he is not a candidate. This is a silly analysis of meaningless data.

If they reported that we could all see the B.S. methodology.

Horserace meme… Must. Be. Maintained.

Yep. Voters love people who aren’t actually running.

Nobody has done any anti-Biden marketing yet (compare to the 24x7 anti-Hillary bs). If he campaigns, this poll will change drastically.

Biden also has the best favorability rating of all candidates regardless of party at 48 percent positive to 39 percent negative.

Perhaps that’s because he’s not presently running and hasn’t had the usual firehose of slime aimed at him yet? It’s easy to have/keep positive favorableas when you don’t enter the frey.

You sound like a Republican…namely Carl Rove…blame the polling firm rather than understand that this polling firm has a good solid track record.

This does seem to be the year that the public wants more authentic talk (even though it policy void and crazy) over political calculation. Biden has authenticity, Unfortunately Hillary is too clever by half in her political messaging.

Biden won’t run, What is this support of Rubio?

Weighting by party is part of the deal. This type of sample(roughly 50/50) is exactly what the “unskew the polls” folks wanted. Regardless of having no foundation in reality. Qpac does this early on and their early polls are shit because of it. Just like this one. That is their record.

Methodology matters.

But, a close poll invites clicks, a runaway invites yawns. This is what Qpac wants and this is what political press needs… a horserace.
