Discussion for article #240418
It’s comforting to know there are two democrats who could (at this point) whup ass on any republican candidate.
Clinton’s numbers were higher before she officially started running. The same would happen with Biden, It’s easy to be popular and appear authentic when you aren’t running for anything.
now lets see what Bernie would do against these asshats on the repubicon side …I have a feelin he would be up there too beating the republicons big time …but the so called liberaledia doesn’t want to cover him but do love to compare him along wqith trump as an exteamist well if Bernie sanders is an extreamist then dammit so the hell am I
Another MSM-initiated poll to pressure non-candidate Biden into running. Curious that this poll didn’t include Senator Sanders, a declared Democratic candidate, who is polling quite well on his own.
How old are these photos? That looks like 80s-era Trump.
I’m sure Bernie would do quite well with a D behind his name, but I think things would change drastically when the country finds out that D is actually an S.
I watched Sanders give an extended speech last night on FreeSpeech TV. I truly admire the guy – he’s authentic, honest and his analysis is spot on. If people would hear the entirety of his message, he might have a chance. However, I just know the general voting public is never going to hear what he has to say in its full context. What they will hear are soundbites that will be edited to make him sound nuts. He will be painted as a radical and will not be able to win the general election. I’ve lived through decades of elections and disappointments to understand how this works. For Sanders – or someone who shares his views – to ever win the presidency, there would have to be a great political awakening in this country. Sanders is helping to educate-- and I support his efforts, but I am not going to have any illusions that he could win. So…. we do need a candidate that will appeal to a broad section of the public. If Biden were up to running – which I kind doubt he is at this point, I think he’d have a better chance with the wider electorate than Clinton. He simply has a more appealing personality than her. Of course, Clinton is smart, capable and qualified – and I would love to see a woman president – but her personality is off-putting. She just does not connect with the public. Personality, whether we want to accept reality or not, is a huge factor in who people end up voting for.
I saw a few talking heads say the same thing. It’s all rainbows and happiness until one announces s/he is really running.
Then everything changes and the long knives come out from every angle.
If Bernie were to get the nomination, they would flog that Socialist horse hourly.
Godless Communist!! Red Menace!! Grabbing all the guns!! Muslim-Putin lover!! Soft on Crime!! Giving away “other peoples money” to THEM!! etc.etc.etc.
It would be horrible.
I don’t know where you’re getting this idea that Clinton doesn’t connect with the public. When she was SOS her approval numbers were consistently higher than those of BO.
The depressing and/or scary element of this poll is that 38/39% of voters polled would actually vote for Cruz or Trump in the general election, rather than 12 or 13%, if we owned a relatively sane electorate. Oy.
I’m perfectly happy with a Pres/VP ticket with any combination of Biden, Clinton and Sanders. The country has made huge strides in the economy, deficit, health care and foreign policy the last 7 years. As long as the Republicans don’t have the ability to kill all forward progress again!
Apples and oranges. I’m pretty sure her approval numbers as SOS were based on job performance, not personality or likeability. My mail carrier’s approval ratings are through the roof, even though I know nothing about her/him. Of course not knowing where you got your numbers from, I’m only guessing.
It will be horrible no matter who the Ds nominate. I don’t think we should nominate a candidate on the basis of the tenor of slanders that the Republicans will throw their way; the right wing is very creative in that arena.
Hell, they even called Roosevelt a communist.
Informed eenie meenie miny mo…
Old photos…Donald’s gone a more melted creamsicle shade.
You know, things change. Why, we might even get a black President one day!
Even if it should be Biden 99% Cruz 1%
I totally agree and you are being very rational. The problem is that America isn’t rational.
Wingnuttia has been flogging this “socialist” thing so long that far too many Americans believe that Europe is this horrible socialist hellhole where the few people who work their poor fingers to the bone are supporting the 95% of the population who get all the “free stuff”.
The “socialist” meme leads straight to the communist one with the old Stalin, Mao, Castro boogeyman fearmongering that we will be enslaved or nuked any second unless we take them out first… That’s one big piece of baggage Hillary doesn’t have.
I think Hillary voting for the Iraq war helps her now if she frames it as: “I voted to keep America safe based on the lies I was fed by Cheney, et. al. It was wrong, but I will always put Americans’ safety first, bla, bla, bla. And I helped take bin Laden out”.
