Discussion: Poll: 65 Percent Of Americans Think Cruz Qualifies For The Presidency

Discussion for article #244907

As the story says, almost a third did not know of thought he’s not. Which is a substantial number in an election.

Thinking even more about this, if you can, Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother who was registered to vote just like a Canadian citizien, and who did not file or complete required forms establishing Ted’s U.S. citizenship with the U.S. government. His father was a Cuban immigrant who chose Canada over America, and did not become a U.S. citizen until 2005, when he was in his 60s. Ted did not renounce his Canadian “natural birth” citizenship until 2014, when he was in his 40s, in order to convince you he was only an American. Do you think Ted Cruz is or is not eligible to be President of the United States?

Is not eligible: 80%
Is eligible: 3%
Unsure: 17%

Seems to me that many of those surveyed are confusing the criteria for “American Citizen” and “Natural Born Citizen” qualified to be POTUS as defined in the Constitution.

Bless their ratfkin’ hearts. They couldn’t ‘believe’ it of the President but then he was born black in Hawaii…

I want to see the cross-tabs on the “do you agree with the Dred Scott decision?” question.

But these same people continue claim President Obama is an interloper! An alien! A usurper! Even though he produced his Hawaii birth certificate – which they claim is a fraud. Cruz on the other hand have Canadian birth certificate, and was dual citizen up until a year or so ago. If the script were flipped, you can rest assure they’d have a different position.

Poll: Nearly Two-Thirds Of Republicans Think Cruz Is A ‘Natural Born Citizen’

Also a plurality believe Rosemary’s baby was a documentary.

By that, they mean that Cruz was not born by C-section (and they think that only MacDuff can kill him).

And two-thirds think that God can get a virgin pregnant.

Turns out, when you poll ignorance, you get…wait for it…MORE ignorance.

Cruz’s eligibility for the Presidency is a matter involving interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, not "The Gong Show!"

Another recent poll found more Republicans believed Cruz was born in the US than Obama.

But of course Obama is a Kenyan. His American mother and Hawaii do not count.

Sorry People, but Cruz is NOT a natural born citizen. The Supreme Court needs to put this issue away once and for all. They will conclude that a Natural Born Citizen must be born on American Soil. They will clarify that American soil is all 50 states of the United States and it’s U.S. Territories and any U.S. Government Embassies and Consulates and Military Complexes on foreign soil.

Then Sen. McCain was never eligible to run for President, no matter what any Senate resolution says. McCain was born in a private hospital in Panama, not on an army base like so many folks believe. The only way around it, would be if Panama had been a territory, etc., at the time.

Poll: Nearly Two-Thirds Of Republicans Think Cruz Is A ‘Natural Born Citizen’

So?

It’s not a popularity issue. It’s a legal issue.

Yes: 30%
No: 3%
“I love pirates!”: 67%

Edit: for maths…

Natural born is such a weird expression. Every time someone brings it up, a picture of Cruz being born goes through my mind. And, well, please just stop with this, okay?

First off, you have the headline wrong. It should be, “Nearly One-Third of Americans Think Cruz Isn’t a ‘Natural Born Citizen’.”

Secondly, this poll doesn’t ask the really relevant question: “Ted Cruz recently renounced his Canadian citizenship, which he had because he was born there. Do you think someone who did such a renunciation is a ‘natural born citizen’ under the Constitution?”
