OT: Turns out this morning’s much-ballyhooed Rosenstein announcement is a damp squib and seemingly unrelated to Mueller. In fact it could well be a piece of Trumpist maneuvering to create a pretext for a war with Iran. Who cares about Iranian hackers who’ve broken into a few thousand university professors’ email accounts? That happens every day.
I can’t help but think that Mueller is racing against the clock of his own dismissal. The sooner we hear from him on new indictments, the better.

I’m curious about Kelly. While I hear that Trump wants to get rid of him (and might), I feel like Kelly has broader powers of manipulation than people realize.
I was mildly surprised at how Kelly survived the Porter scandal and turned it against Kushner to effectively neuter him. Kushner walks the halls, but with his tail between his legs.
Every article I see has Kelly involved somehow. The DACA deal was broken up by Kelly. When Trump tried to pressure Rosenstein and McGahn, Kelly was involved, on the one hand not discouraging the confrontation, while on the other hand pretending to be controlling Trump from incriminating himself further.
It was also reported that Kelly wanted to oust McMaster. Why? I think it’s because they disagree ideologically on the use of force, the Iran Deal and NK. I believe Kelly is a war monger who wants aggressive military action, mass deportation and all the rest of the malevolent MAGA agenda.
The image I keep getting in my head when I think of Kelly is a character in the Amazon TV series, “The Man in the High Castle” (based on a book by Philip K. Dick) which envisions an alternative/upside down parallel universe in which the Nazis/Japanese won WWII and effectively colonized the US and the rest of the world.
There is a character there, Martin Heussmann, who leads a secret cabal to take over the Nazi Reich as an aging, paranoid, mentally ill and distant Hitler loses his grip on power. He’s quiet, outwardly professional and competent, but then maneuvers various pieces to become a deputy Fuhrer and essentially take the reins of the Reich. At that point his delusions of grandeur and global war become revealed. Eventually he oversteps and gets taken out by the old guard (imagine people like Himmler and Goebbels being the less bad guys!).
My point is that Kelly is everywhere. He likes building his profile. He is moving people in and out of the administration while trying to keep his hands clean. But all of his moves point to people who are not independent thinkers, but are rather aligned with MAGA and whom he can manipulate.

McGahn is eager to leave but his departure may depend on whether he can find a replacement of whom Trump approves.
If that’s all that it takes, then he should be out in no time… that is, um, if we can believe Chiselin’ Trump:
