We need some details here.
"There is no good reason for this,"
Duh.
There is no good reason for letting sociopaths have firearms either, but as long as there is a profit to be made, good reasons are not required.
Dear NRA,
Thank you for the murder of yet another Innocent American.
Every American Death makes The Cause closer to its goal of destroying the Great Evil.
Sincerely,
ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Iran and North Korea.
“Kill List”
Creepily cold-blooded and efficient.
Sounds like something straight out of Seven Habits of Highly Effective Serial Killers.
…calling him a “very sick person”…
Sounds familiar. Does Trump have an alibi?
He was probably a good engineer - very methodical and organized.
Expect to see an episode similar to this on the show Criminal Minds.
It’s probably the girlfriend he broke up with that was mentioned in a couple articles. Hopefully that’s the last person he killed.
This happens all the time, and it’s not necessary…if we had a proper mental health system, with no stigma attached if you go for counseling, and smart gun control (including ways to remove weapons from someone deemed dangerous), then we would see a lot fewer cases of ex-boyfriends shooting ex-girlfriends and then (usually) themselves. This case is also going to make every single professor in the nation nervous…working in academics can be filled with strife sometimes, and the last thing we need is people deciding to shoot professors who don’t make their students happy (or professors that are so afraid of being shot that they quit making students work for their achievements).
My step-daughter works in an academic advising department and she has many stories of students who lost their shit when things don’t go their way. And, yes, they have had active-shooter training. Sick world.
Steve Jobs said to see the world not as it is but as you imagine it could be. Imagine a world without guns.
To paraphrase Keanu Reeves in Parenthood, " You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, or drive a car. Hell, you need a license to catch a fish! But they’ll let any butt-reaming asshole [can buy a gun.]"
They’ve done this theme to death on that show.
Sounds like the title of one of Trumpty Dumpty’s books.
What about Dick Cheney? We know he’s capable of shooting people.
Clearly this is why guns on campus are a good idea. Because why make the gunman actually plan something and provide many points of failure (that sometimes work) when he can have immediate gratification and whip out a pistol and kill someone because they sat in his chair in the library.
Strange that he left a note for the police to check on his cat.
Prioritys; and pets do give unconditional affection.
I think a solution that could be made palatable to gun “enthusiasts” is possible. It occurred to me after learning about how amateur radio certification works. Essentially ham radio operators give tests to other operators for licensing purposes. They also monitor others’ usage in case they need help doing things properly. To comply with the “well-regulated militia” concept I think something similar could work for firearms.
Gun owners should be required to form clubs that meet monthly or quarterly. All gun owners should be required to attend. Not only would these groups be responsible for licensing, they would also be responsible for de-licensing anyone they thought might be a danger. Some mechanism could be created whereby one member could nominate another that causes concern to a committee that could determine eligibility for continued gun ownership.
