Discussion: Police Want NFL To Rescind Ban On Guns For Off-Duty, Retired Officers

Discussion for article #243344

Missed that field goal? Screwed. I remember when Browns fans were throwing FULL bottles of beer at the refs. Outside of the stupidity (drink the beer FIRST), sounds much better with bullets. Really don’t need reform of the officiating if some can bring guns into the stadium.

Alcohol, sports, weapons…what could go wrong?

It was a retired officer who shot and killed a movie goer in a Florida theatre over a texting dispute, so what’s to stop a retired officer from shooting somebody over some personal beef.

Why not let the on duty Cops carry the weapons? How about the one’s that have not retired? Cops are not a special class of people.

Yes, I’ve been watching that closely (Curtis Reeves). He’s invoking Stand Your Ground. He’s a crazy old man who should have never had a weapon. I’m afraid he’ll die before he gets to trial. That would drive me insane.

Obviously the Police want to up the number of public citizen killings to offset the number of documented killing by police. This is an “increase the denominator” ploy. or a WTF moment.

Exactly, can see it now some dumb drunk fuck says something a redneck cop takes the wrong way and bam… “I was in fear of my life” statement as he looks for and deletes all video footage.

I think a little cross-fire during half-time would add some pizazz.

Would add a whole new meaning to the term ‘half-time show’.

Don’t tell them that.

What stopped the Paris attackers from doing more damage than they did? The fact that they could not get into the stadium, and had to detonate themselves outside the venue.

A stadium full of guns isn’t going to stop someone with a dead man’s switch from detonating themselves. Perimeter security is.

Only if we can play football in police department offices.

If I enter a New England game armed I just know Tom Brady is going to threaten me. I’ll have to stand my ground. The other fricking 31 teams can’t figure out a way to take him down, why not resort to an asinine gun law to do it?

He lunged at me!!! Ahhhh!!! Blam, blam!!!

Lots of amateur videos have shown in the past few years that LEOs are not always reliable actors in a confrontation when they are armed.

Is the NFL trying to get more armed support without paying wages for it?

THIS! I’m so fucking tired of these people acting like they deserve special privileges. Isn’t being above the law enough? Aren’t the pension and benefits enough?
Also, off duty and retired cops are the people most often in the news (other than small children) for having accidentally shot someone or themselves. It’s hard enough as it is to go to a Bengals vs. Steelers game decked out in black and yellow, I don’t need some drunk, racist, retired cop to try to teach me a lesson.

The Broncos did finally take them down…and Gronk.

In the same vein, it’s impossible to attend a sporting event without demands of those attending to applaud and honor the military in attendance. They’re pointed out in the crowd, paraded on the field, shown on the Jumbotron, given awards, on and on and on it goes. It’s like you’ve traveled to West Point and a basketball game broke out. Fricking camo wear everywhere. Flags, fireworks. And the Star Spangled Banner no longer suffices. Somewhere in the course of the evening God Bless America gets played. And always, always, always on the PA system the low drone of suck-ass Bro-Country nationalistic jingoism songs. STFU Blake Shelton!!

Yea because police officers, especially when off duty or retired, are always doing the right thing. Hey why not soldiers…and white christian males too?

Hey lumberjacks could carry chain saws and chiefs could carry knives!

Hater. The police union wouldn’t ask for the change if it wasn’t for our own good.
