“I’m sure the people on the sidewalks were carrying clubs and provoking the driver. When will the alt-left stop this? Sad.” ~ 45

Las Ramblas isn’t a sidewalk. It’s broad ( 50 feet or so ) walkway that goes from a main square to the water. It is flanked by small cobblestone roads that are near impossible to drive on. It’s packed. Nothing but Hotels, restaurants and stores flank it. The walkway itself is loaded with food and junk booths, street performers and tourists. It’s one of my favorite places in the world.

If you jumped a curb there you’d do quite a bit of damage.

You think 45 would know that?

I hope it wasn’t an anti-tourism protester.

Is it the grammar or the geography you don’t like? Barcelona is on the southern Mediterranean coast of Spain but it’s considered a “northern city” because Catalonia is so far north of places like Seville or Gibraltar. It’s north of Madrid.

Mine too. Las Ramblas is a hive of activity all day but especially for summer dinner hours and after. It’s a vibrant place where Calatan dance troupes show their stuff, vendors hawk all kinds of things and the great food/shopping around with many a family taking a break for a bite or drink.

Of course that dirty terrorist would decide to attack it. Disgusting.

Will Trump hesitate to call it terrorism before he gets all the facts? I guess it depends on the name and/or color of the driver.

It’s a wonderful place. When we were in the city a few years ago, we were on that block every single night.

We should wait for all the facts are in before we make blanket statements about whether the pedestrians were equally at fault. For all we know, there might have been some very fine people in that van. If we attack the people of the van, the van people, shouldn’t we also judge SUV occupants? Where does it end?

All Tourists Matter

So this administration came right out and called it terror, meanwhile at home a terrorist administration …

Although there are many fine people on both sides.

Well, I’m sure there’s many fine folks on both sides of the issue.

I am totally nonplussed by the level of coverage this is getting especially by cable news. But what really gets me is that every example given to compare what happened in Barcelona today in the time I’ve been watching, is absent the recent domestic terrorism of what happened in Charlottesville just last week. Its noticeable in the coverage on both CNN and MSNBC at least. Apparently, when these news channels talk about terrorism, they refuse to include domestic terrorism here at home as a matter for comparison, even when it mimics and is absolutely the same as what’s happening by actors committing domestic terrorism on foreign soil. Astonishing. What that tells me is that cable news hasn’t learned a fucking thing for all its hair on fire over the last week talking about cars running into innocent bystanders.

"The driver of the car is a murderer and what he did was a horrible, horrible, inexcusable thing [but] we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides ― on many sides.”

*Actual quote from Donald J. Trump

45 just twattered: “We denounce this act of terror, blah blah blah blah.”

See how quickly he can do it when a White American Male isn’t the perp?
