Discussion: Police Threaten Reporters In Ferguson: 'Get The F--k Out Of Here' (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #226535

I’m not on the ground there so I don’t know what is happening. But, a reporter’s job is to document and report, not get in the way.

The media is now trying to find a new story, Ron Johnson is no longer ‘hero’ but oppressor of journalists.

Funny how we’ve been shown just a ‘clip’, nothing about what happened before Ron Johnson’s statement.

So much for the “hero of Ferguson” Capt. Ron Johnson.

I don’t know about that. Without him at least helping to reset things to a more normal state we’d probably have had much larger riots and at least a few Rodney King moments.

Whether or not he is just that remains to be seen.

That same media is widely touting him as the Savior come to save the situation, so your assertion that they are “trying to find a news story” seems to me baseless.

We deserve to know what is going on – this isn’t Russia. If the truth isn’t complimentary to the police, so be it. It’s been shown that when police are required to wear cameras, for example, violent incidents and complaints fall precipitously.

Agreed. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but this tactic has been employed before. It seems he’s been installed as a figurehead but has little actual authority – witness the way he reluctantly participated in the presser by the Gov announcing the curfew.

So reporters should only be allowed where it is safe and peace is maintained?

I know quite a few war zone journalists that are going to seriously disagree with you…

I was kind of thinking the same thing.

“Nobody is allowed to get line of sight into this chunk of the city.”

Can’t see any way for that kind of thing to be abused!

One of the disturbing aspects of this situation has been obvious harassment of reporters. If the reporters are doing anything intrusive or problematic, the police have many ways to deal with that besides arresting them. The fact this kind of treatment hasn’t ended abruptly and that Capt. Johnson was actually involved in it is a mark against him in my mind. The public needs to know what the police are doing, period.

This is pretty much standard police (mis)behavior. It’s only now with lots of reporters around that it gets noticed.

Been watching the local coverage. The command center is where they park their vehicles before pealing in and out to where the war zone is about two miles down the road. It’s a Target parking lot. There is easy access to the mail highway from there.

It’s across from a country club and golf course and near the entrance to a Fortune 500 company. Ironic?

Yeah, funny how the report is finite in length.

Funny how you’re anti-journalism and believe whatever the police say. They don’t even have to say it - you just assume that there is hidden information that excuses their behavior.

The police really haven’t been authorized to do whatever they want. We live in a nation of laws, right? We have a situation that started because of the abuse of power by certain policemen. Somehow, you only seem concerned with the need for the police to have as much power as they want. Operating in secrecy is not a power that the people have granted the police. The reasons for that should be obvious.

Where are all the second amendment supporters? Do they not care about the first amendment?

So, there are not ANY hero cops in Ferguson any more. Despicable situation.

There appeared to be no protesters near the command center. Unless it was a sniper shooting at the Target building and the cameras would not be showing anything. Perhaps that was the problem?

Why isn’t there a communication person working with the press now that the State Troopers and National Guard are involved?
I’ve never seen a more stonewalled and boneheaded media operation from government officials in my life. Al Qaeda works the media better.

Or, at least why aren’t they there jabbering about “trees of liberty” and “preventing jackbooted oppression”?

" the POLICe in FerGUSON as THE HERos that THEY ARE!!!1!!!1!one!!!1!!!"
These are the hero’s who beat a (black) man, charged him with destruction of property ( for bleeding on their uniforms) then denied it happened after the charges were dropped and a lawsuit was filed. Which the judge saw as meritless even though the signed arrest record was evidence of perjury.
