What we have got is not so much organized terrorism as a worldwide epidemic of disturbed young men “running amok.”
How do we go to “war” against this? It’s more like a contagion, being transmitted through the media and the darker corners of the internet.

War is the wrong analogy, and using it will get people killed without even addressing a reasonable solution.
Guns in the mix certainly don’t help matters. Even with the documented mentally ill.
This story will probably fade away pretty quickly here because it doesn’t fit Trump’s “law and order” narrative nor McCain’s “let’s blame Obama” narrative.
But it shouldn’t. We need to address mental health issues and access to guns just for starters. Then, we can talk about raising the level of discourse and somehow raising the threshold for people to resort to violence.

We have always had crazy people the vast majority of whom are harmless to others, those who are suicidal, and those who are suicidal and homicidal.
The differences today are three: 1) Easy access to not just “guns” but guns of mass destruction that can kill tens of people in a crowded environment in less than a minute; 2) Gun makers with no accountability or scruples about producing them en masse; and 3) Traffickers both online and offline who also have no scruples about selling these to anyone who wants one no questions asked.
There are too many young men in this world who feel alienated and hopeless. A good paying job that gives one a purpose in life would end so much of this violence.

Our modern society teaches boys that they must never admit weakness and stand on their own. It separates them from the very social network that makes life worth living and makes one whole.
Only 18 years old and already despondent to the point of dying and taking all these innocents with him.
That’s some heavy duty depression or illness.
The world is becoming overloaded. The population is only increasing the odds that one out of millions will go off like this. The easy access to military styled weapons and altered weapons only makes it worse and almost inevitable.
Why own one of those things if you aren’t going to use it and why buy a pop gun when you can score a serious killing device.
A six shooter is a relic, all the cool kids have 9’s and up. The bad boys have the bad toys and so do the crazed. If they ever invent a pocket rocket launcher, that will be the next craze. It’s the same principle as super sizing, if you give the public an option they always opt for bigger.
You know, I’ll have a super duper sized fry, a tub-o-coke and a mini rocket launcher please and thank you and hold the pickle.
As soon as someone figures out how to make a buck on it, we’ll go to “War” against it. That’ s how it works.
