This poor father is the same type of person the gun nuts tell us would save us, like Dirty Harry, during a terrorist attack.
Keep your goddamned guns at home, and let the professionals do what they are trained and qualified to do.

I’ll save you some trouble in writing these headlines in the future, TPM. Just save this for future reference:

Police: (State) (man, woman) Mistakes (description of victim) For Intruder, Kills (personal pronoun)

You must be thinking of the story from about two weeks ago where a mom killed her 27-year old daughter as she was unlocking the front door.

If only his son had a gun too! Not enough good guys with a gun in this situation.

97% of gun deaths are suicides (largest percentage), murders or accidents (like this one).

Have a gun in your home. But if you use it and a death occurs, there’s a 97% chance that you, a family member or a friend will be the one killed.

The solution to the gun problem, the gun culture, is education.

The problem with this is that gun nuts don’t believe in education generally, certainly not education about gun violence in particular.

Another good guy with a gun. Nice shooting, Dad.

Exactly why I won’t keep a gun around. Once you pull the trigger, there’s no taking it back. I’m sure many lives were irreparably shattered by that one instant.

You assume that gun buyers want to be educated, and are educable.

My wife went to the home of a friend the other night and as her friend’s husband opened the door he told her she should be careful coming to their house at night as she might get shot. He then pulled out the pistol he had stuffed into his waistband and held it up for her to see. God damn some folks are so fucking paranoid and it tends to be the most conservative religious ones that supposedly believe in a God that protects them that are the fucking worst. I told her we’d probably read about him either shooting a family member or himself before he ever shot an intruder.

But it was so scary hearing that noise in the basement!

So incredibly sad. Yeah, shooting randomly into the dark – always a good choice.

I’m really sick of these headlines. Can we be honest for once? It should read, “Man murders son.”
