How does that work ?

This just in: Jussie Smollett has announced that he is leaving acting to return to his first love. Parking cars.

Police chief’s statement was excellent.

He should have kept his trolling for sympathetic “likes” to social media rather than the actual world.

Well, he’s certainly helped make the A block of every fox show for the next decade. As well as helping the “careers” of every RWNJ troll in the universe.

I’m sure the sadists that pollute the seedier comment sections are popping champales and pontificating about how this proves…fill in the blank with whatever they were previously aggrieved about.

Who could have guessed that this could go wrong?

Meet your next Republican Congressman, a man who cares so much about himself, he chewed up and sold out everyone and everything else that should’ve mattered.

He’s mentally ill and not well.
Maybe he suffers from affluenza.

So, there’s this soon-to-be-unemployed guy available to play Smollett on the inevitable TV movie about this whole mess…

Actually it does happen. Like in the case of Matthew Shephard.
Smollett lied but that does not discount the fact that crimes are committed against people. Same as in rape, robbery or kidnapping (i.e. Susan Smith). It’s a shame people file false reports but don’t be silly in thinking that just because Jussie did this that it NEVER ever happens.

There’s more coverage in some quarters about Jussie Smollett than about the right-wing white nationalist who was arrested yesterday for plotting to kill many Democrats and MSNBC and CNN personalities.

I’m not saying don’t cover the Smollett case, but a little perspective would be nice.

Is faking a hate crime itself a hate crime? He’s being charged with disorderly conduct, which is on Illinois’s hate crimes list.

“A person commits hate crime when, by reason of the actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or national origin of another individual or group of individuals, regardless of the existence of any other motivating factor or factors, he or she commits assault, battery, aggravated assault, intimidation, stalking, cyberstalking, misdemeanor theft, criminal trespass to residence, misdemeanor criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to vehicle, criminal trespass to real property, mob action, disorderly conduct, transmission of obscene messages, harassment by telephone, or harassment through electronic communications”

I haven’t been following this and I don’t watch Empire, though I think I caught the first several episodes when it first started to air on TV a few years back.

I feel like this guy is mentally ill and needs help, not incarceration, though I can understand the outrage by the police for filing a false police report and tying up their valuable time to investigate this one bogus crime. Still, this guy should be let go of his TV role and get some long term inpatient mental health services. The court should remand him to a psychiatric facility and then do some kind of periodic review to see how much progress he’s made. He might easily become suicidal following all this craziness. I don’t understand the motivation for what he hoped to accomplish, but there seems to be a lot of self-hate going on, beyond what many people have described as some kind of martyr complex or what the police are saying in getting more attention and bigger salary at his acting job. He’s a high profile guy…so the police were forced to give him a high profile investigation…and they’re pissed. Can’t blame them, but the guy is sick more than he is some kind of hard core criminal.

All in all…its sad he felt he had to go this route for some kind of attention or as I see it, a cry for help.

I’m glad I didn’t follow this story in the first place.

How could he have ever thought that this would turn out to his benefit?

Me too. Too TMZ for me frankly. The kind of stuff that generally turns me off.

force the actor, who is black and gay, to pay for the cost of the investigation into his report of a Jan. 29 beating

I understand that the actor’s being gay and black has some relevance to this story, but the placement of that information seems to suggest that his blackness and/or gayness might have something to do with his ability or inability to reimburse the city for the cost of the investigation.

Unfortunately, he represents people who are self absorbed and obsessed with being famous and will engage in inappropriate behavior to get it.
I, unfortunately have known of many gay people who are obsessed with the lives of the bitch and famous.
I hope they throw the book at this guy. He gives the political right ammunition.
