Discussion: Police: Homemade Explosive Device Found At Wichita Women's Clinic

Discussion for article #239528

Just as innocent as carrying a gun into the US Capitol, I guess. What might be a legitimate purpose for a small bottle of gunpowder with a fuse anyway, even in Kansas?

Apparently the guy had something akin to a firecracker in his backpack. He was a homeless guy looking for a job. The backpack had everything he owned. I understand this is women’s clinic but not everything is sinister.

I’m surprised TPM didn’t weave the Donald into this piece.

I really can’t think of any reason–other than a sinister one–to carry explosives in your knapsack. Homeless or not. He may not have been going after the clinic, but…

Donald made him do it…I know!

You didn’t read the story did you. It was explained. The guy was homeless. He had everything he owned in his backpack. He was looking for a job. The security guard searched his backpack and found the gunpowder.

What part of “every thing he owned” don’t you understand?

Thanks sooooooo MUCH for remedying their lapse!

Maybe I lack imagination, but if you are homeless and only have one or two possessions in the world and you choose a bottle with gun powder with a fuse in it to be one of those precious possessions , well, yep! I’d call that ( among other things ) sinister.

You, on the other hand, seem to thnk he chose well, being homeless and poor and all.

Doesn’t everyone have a personal bomb?

Don’t you?

It’s the latest accessory.

And they come in so many colors!

There’s the traditional “Black Powder”

and then there’s the “red phosphorous” and the “white phosphorous”

the “Beige C4”

the " Orange Semtex-H", the “Red Semtex 1A”, and the “Jet Black NP10”

and for those who dare the edgy

“Paisley pyrotechnic”!

Seriously, how do the police know this guy was not testing the abilities of the clinic to detect explosives?

I don’t know if the man chose well. Most homeless people I know have mental issues. I am just not prepared to jump to a conclusion about an “explosive device” that sounds like it had the explosive force of a large firecracker.

Homeless guy… sounds like protection to me. ABQ is horrible.

Homeless… suck in one of the worst cities in the country with one of the worst meth problems… cant hurt to have something to protect yourself.

Oh, you haven’t seen the follow up story yet!

So I’m assuming he didn’t get the job?

If you’re 19 and homeless, you’re likely not either the sharpest or least twisted knife in the drawer. I’m wondering, though: would the police have had anything to hold him on if he’d been carrying a gun instead?

Interesting how the police appear to believe that they have the ability to read minds.

If it were as true as many of them seem to believe it is, the crime rate might be a bit lower.

Love the people who bravely carry on, trying to help women in dire need of medical services, in the face of ‘innocuous’ threats such as these. George Tiller was a courageous hero, gunned down in his church. I have a niece whose first child was declared dead at 7 months and had to have a late term abortion! Tiller was one of the few people who would do those difficult procedures. Shame on all the so called pro lifers who make a very personal decision into a government issue!
