Tragic situation, and hope folks are ok. Just hope Donnie doesn’t somehow politicize it.
There are mass casualties because lots of people were hurt. Could you PLEASE clarify if they mean it was an intentional event?
UPDATE: NBC reports four law enforcement officials say it was likely accidental: “Preliminary reports suggest the crash involving train No. 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line was accidental or caused by operator error, according to four law enforcement officials, though they stress it is early in the investigation.”
Is that even a question?
I’m guessing that it’s far to soon to determine that. Probably not too soon for Trump though.
The photos are horrific. Hoping it looks worse than it really was. Yeesh.
He will.
No, I guess I’m just predicting the inevitable, lamentable Donnie Twitterstorm that there was a mooslim observed within 5 miles of the station, or that Hillary was driving the train…
Time until Trump claims; “I called it!”
2 hours.
This sounds very, very much like a malfunction of the train or human error. Nothing about this sounds like terrorism unless there was some sort of sabatoge.
Used to commute in and out of there for years. The interior of the station is quite lovely. I hope for the best.
Given that these trains come in every 15 minutes or so during rush hour and the platforms are always full of people kinda hard for someone to get down on the tracks sabotage them and not be seen.
There doesn’t seem to be enough information yet – if the train was approaching the station for a stop it must be running at a slower speed – hopefully that helped minimize the extent of injuries and damages.
Hopeful as well. There are a few things which, at this time, bear bringing out, albeit they are tangential to this horrible incident:
-
There are a couple of stories dealing with foreign hacking of this election on Electoral Vote website. The site mentions hacker capability as well as compromise of data systems in states…as well as foreign hacker ability to purge voter rolls in swing states.
-
This site also mentions scenarios in which Trump does not accept the election outcome. Not very pleasant
-
The way Trump has responded to his Debate debacle, while childish and petulant, has uncovered a side of Trump which, while certainly not attractive to many voters, shows a near maniacal drive to prevail at all costs…impressions be damned.
All three of these items point to the irresponsible manner in which the MSM allowed Trump to corral his supporters.
In point of fact, the word “irresponsible” is far too tame.
The United States of America, as an experiment in self-rule only a few hundred years old, is in its greatest danger to date. Trump sees his latest setback as a temporary one. How to deal with the other ways in which Trump can assume power should be on the minds of everyone in this country other than the 45% of it which supports Donald Trump.
I expect this link will be updated as more information becomes available:
Why it’s categorized as “US Election 2016” I don’t know.
ETA: Now a live blog:
Then why push the line? If all this means is that a lot of people got hurt and it was a slip of the tongue, then there is no need for the inflammatory headline. If it means they think it may have been intentional, then that should be stated outright.
What does any of this have to do with a train accident in New Jersey?
Thanks a lot.
What slip of the tongue? The headline was: “Police: Hoboken Commuter Train Crash Possible ‘Mass Casualty Incident’”
How is that inflammatory? Stating that there are possible mass casualties in no way indicates that it was intentionally caused.
It’s not a possible mass casualty incident. It is one, and that was clear from the first moments and doesn’t require a quote from the Hoboken police to verify. The article quotes numerous people who are hurt.
I inferred that the headline was trying to say something else, that it was an intentional act. I may have been wrong, but given that New York and NJ have had attacks in the past couple weeks we’re kinda on edge here. Apologies if I over reacted.
