Discussion: Police Fatally Shoot Man Under Terror Surveillance In Boston

Discussion for article #237024

“Military knife”…yeah, let’s make knives sound deadlier and scarier by calling it “military” style. Jesus Christ. What? Was it a Swiss Army knife? Is that what made it “military” style?

Lets find out a few more facts before we freak out.

Maybe they are telling the truth & they are heroes. I have no reason to doubt it. But recent events have proven that huge numbers of LEOs would accuse the suspect of threatening them whether or not it was true. And worse, that almost everyone in law enforcement would back them up, even if they knew it was a lie.

THAT is the tipping point that law enforcement doesn’t seem to understand. The “blue wall of silence” brings under suspicion officers who would never themselves do that sort of thing. Though I believe the legal term for assisting in a crime is “accessory”, so it’s not like those who keep silence are innocent.

I’ll wait for the facts to be revealed.

That may be true for some police in some cities. Boston, by contrast, has been at the forefront of community policing as part of their efforts to reduce crime. It seems to be working. The current police commisioner, (as well as the former one who was serving during the marathon bombing time), are aggressive in trying to be transparent, to hold themselves accountable, to meet with families of victims of fatal police shootings, etc.

Boston is generally doing better than many larger cities in this regard, and they are often called-upon to consult and coach other large cities in implementing more reasonable police-community relations efforts. I’ll wait for a full airing of this incident which I expect will be forthcoming within a few days, at most.

Glad to hear it. Though that illustrates my point that the innocent are suspected along with the guilty when people lose trust in the police being willing to police themselves. Have they eradicated the “blue wall of silence” in Boston?

Authorities say a man under surveillance by terrorism investigators has lunged at officials with a military-style knife and has been fatally shot in Boston.

He also has eaten cereal for dinner and has asked for directions while traveling in Florida. We don’t know if these actions are related geographically or chronologically to either the knife or the shooting.

I do not think it is possible to arrive at a case of complete “eradication” but certainly some brave attempts to confront such things, and to hold themselves accountable to the public and the press.

A press conference is being scheduled for later this afternoon, according to noon cable news reporters.

Back in the olden days if a cop shot a guy with a knife his cop buddies would laugh him off the force.

It’s listed in the Army Field Manual as “325/19J Knife, big fucking”.

Since this seems to be terrorism surveillance related I wonder if any more details will be made public…ever.

I am from the Boston area and I am proud of the professionalism of officers across the board in Mass. There are some problems but on average I would put our officers high on the scale. This sounds like a question of training and officers are trained as if they are alone with no backup. As long as training was followed I have no problem with this. If you have problems with the training then speak with your legislator at the state or federal level.

We are not privy to how many jihadi wana-be’s there are in our neighborhoods, the police think they do but they probably are understating it. This person was watched 24 hours a day. How many officers and or agents do you need to track just one person … the manpower involved is just astronomical. My only regret is that he may have provided useful information if he was brought in alive.

This sounds bloodthirsty because it is. Anyone who has been to Syria to fight with the New Nazi Front must not return home alive. Those who have returned should be disappeared.
