Discussion for article #240189
Just another brick-- from The Wall.
Progress is occurring. Though difficult to observe from in-the-midst.

Looks to me like the mayor needs to resign as well.
“Thanks Chief Hoover for a job well done.” Resign, Mr. Mayor!
Korvu offers sound advice! Get out! Thank you for your service!
I’ll bet he’s drawing the full pension, too. Wingnut welfare.
Thank you to the officer who reported the Chief’s behavior. That is a brave and honorable cop.
If he had compared blacks to homosexual monkeys, Liberty Counsel would be preparing the lawsuits against the city within an hour.
Definitely! One of the huge problems in policing is the good cops won’t stand up and report the bad cops. Props to this guy.
Probably some paid healthcare benefits for himself and dependents as well.
Hey, TPM, you missed a vital part of the Raw Story post–the officer who reported the Chief’s racism has been harassed himself by other officers. His wife has been forced off the road twice!
Paging Justice John Roberts…cleanup in aisle 3…John Roberts, cleanup in aisle 3.
Lest he point to this case as an example of “the system working”, there are tens of thousands of people in official positions, with power over other citizens, who are like the Chief. “The system working” will get rid of them in several generations, at best. It is unconstitutional to make Americans and America wait that long.
Good riddance to the racist creep. A psycho like that should have no place in police work.
His report was believed. Props also to the superiors who didn’t sweep the report under the rug.
And a big raise in his last year before retiring so he gets a bigger pension payout.
Ok, gaggle at Fox and talk radio. This is why police community relations have become an issue. Questions?
Why the bashing of the union retirement benefits the former chief of police may receive? He earned them working for many years. Do you believe that union members should first have to pass a moral means test before receiving their earned benefits?
There are huge numbers of people in this country who resent paying taxes to subsidize public union salarys and benefits, especially for those many union members “who don’t deserve it”. There are a large number of elected officials ( and candidates for such offices) at municipal, county, state and federal levels who exploit this envy and resentment for their own ends. Some of these office holders are even Democrats, such as NY governor, Andrew Cuomo. They would welcome the opportunity further attack public unions in this way.
Civil service laws are a progressive achievement. I would be loth to subvert them.
Hoover has new career possibilities open to him: after-dinner entertainment at KKK rallies.
We’ll need more of it if anything is to change.
Think about this for a second: this is the police chief. Not some lowly officer just getting started, but the head guy. You can’t expect ANYTHING to change if the head guy is racist and doesn’t want things to change.
No, no. Let me guess…christian, right?
