If ânewsâ is something unexpected, then, sadly, a random shooting at a public venue is no longer news.
Nothing to see here. I am sure this was just an isolated incident by some guy who happened upon a firearm since guns do not exactly grow on trees.
(Edit)âWe have no reason to believe at this point that the victims knew the suspectâŚâ
Great. So now only everyone other than people this guy knows are potential future victims as long as he remains at large.
Exactly.
Shootings are more like tornadoes, you donât know exactly where and when they are going to happen but you know they are going to continue to occur.
It should be News, Weather, Sports and Shootings.
Thatâs dark.
How about just âShootings and Stuffâ since even final scores and news events usually take more time to develop than the regular shootings (including suicide by gun) that occur almost every minute or two?
This is not news either because itâs going to happen again and again.
Last year, at least 30 people were killed in accidental shootings in which the shooter was 5 or younger, according to Everytown For Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group that tracks these shootings, largely through news reports.
Shooter worked for Federal Protective Services at the Department of Homeland Security.
He is a policeman. It is also though he is seeking suicide by cop.
Kneed mower gunzzzzz!!!
TPMâŚPlease start a âTodayâs Shooting Injuries/Deathsâ sectionâŚ
God-damned Bernie Sanders. Itâs his fault.
Sadly, itâs news because itâs in the 'burbs at a mall with a Nordstrom. Itâs not far from one of the most sought after high schools in suburban DC and the HQ of Marriott. It wouldnât make the national news if it didnât have a potential effect on Bethesda Bettys. This is basically like CNN and its runaway blondes. Sad for those involved but frankly devaluing to people who are surrounded by this stuff everyday (and some of them live within 10 miles of this place).
Wouldnât matter if it was Rockville, Silver Spring or DC, if itâs folks with a dispute, WTTG (the fox affiliate) will cover it.
Itâs part of their programming.
Sounds like the typical local nightly news broadcast in most of the US to me.
