Maybe Baltimore Police Department is right, back off and let those thugs keep killing each other until all but a few are dead, then arrest the remaining and send them away in some remote prison. Maybe Chicago PD should follow the example. After a 4th of July weekend where Chicago had 82 people shot with 14 killed perhaps the Baltimore way of dealing with the problem is the way to go.

UM, Baltimore is 30 miles away from the University of Maryland Campus, which is in College Park, Maryland.
UM, Baltimore is in a densely populated, urban neighborhood, that traditionally is no stranger to crime.
College Park is a somewhat leafy suburb of Washington DC dominated by a large, green college campus and the surrounding commercial establishments and housing. Not a high crime area.
this is not a shooting on a college campus story. It is an urban (sounds pretty much like classic gangland) crime story. Depressingly common, but not the same.

Because hey, it’s not like real human beings live in that neighborhood who are entitled to live their lives with some degree of security. And obviously, even if there were actual humans, decent citizens just trying to live their life, being terrorized because the cops are withholding their services out of pique, that’s what they deserve, because there’s clearly no middle ground between “cops doing nothing” and “cops acting like storm troopers” where police behave like guardians rather than an occupying force with no legal limits.
It never fails to amaze me how utterly depraved you people are willing to reveal yourselves to be whenever an anecdote comes along that slots into your prejudices.

First off I said MAYBE that is the solution, certainly what has been proposed and enacted so far hasn’t changed one thing but for the worst. Second, you would be right if it was just some isolated episode occurring here and there, but seeing the extension and gravity of how these episodes occur, knowing that “decent citizens” aren’t willing to help the police apprehend those criminals that terrorize them and actually shield them, then one is led to think it isn’t just a few individuals issue, but an entire segment of the population issue. Apples don’t fall that far from the tree.
UM, the University of Maryland has a Baltimore campus, and it’s apparently quite close to this particular crime pocket.

There is a category of news story: campus shooting. It is rare, occasionally extremely violent crime in a context where crime and violence are very rare. The perpetrators are usually mentally disturbed. In some contexts it is an act of small t terrorism.
There is another category of news: urban crime. gang members shoot some people gathered on a street corner in a place where this happens all too often.
That is not to say one is more important or more tragic or whatever. The headline writers at TPM mislabeled the story just because the gang shooting in Baltimore is very near to the downtown University at Maryland at Baltimore campus (note this is not UMBC). That is where the UMD medical school is (and the related schools of nursing, pharmacy, dentistry) the school of social work and the law school are there too. It in was has long been a rough neighborhood. The victims no doubt were sent to the Shock trauma center at the university hospital. It was not a “campus shooting”.
Why does it matter? If you know people who attend or teach at College Park (home to tens of thousands of students, but yeah it is summer) then reading this headline is shocking and terrifying–not something you expect at all. since I do, I read it immediately. If you live in Baltimore (the next city over) and care a lot about street crime and neighborhood violence in your city, you might also find this shocking, sadly not unexpected, and might be very interested in reading it. I don’t.

FIrst off, the crime rate is up in Baltimore because the Police have been having a hissy-fit because some of the officers are being accountable for killing Freddie Gray.Secondly, “those thugs” that are getting killed include a lot of innocent people, including a seven year old boy. Lastly, you are an incredible POS.
