The fact that the Russians are so worked up over this, almost to the point of hysteria, is a tell in itself. Their Margaret Dumont-channeling indignation is a just a PR campaign, not an honest plea for fairness.
Not to mention a fake transcript and recording of a call in which Skirpal is in normal health, just resting a lot.

It does seem odd that they’re so freaked out about this. My guess is that enough other countries are taking it seriously, and the chemical warfare convention when enforced is pretty close to national capital punishment.
