Rest in Peace Maya Angelou, you enlightened and inspired millions around the world.

Does the AP really think people need to be told how to pronounce the name of this great American?

Well, the Tea Party just cleaned house in the primaries in Texass last night.

So yeah, we may just need a pronunciation guide…because Texans don’t speak any of them thar FURRIN’ languages.

Hearing about this ruined my whole morning - I’m really sad, I was pretty bummed the rest of the day when Mandela died and I’ll probably have a similar day today. Another great one leaves us. Goodbye, Maya Angelou.

“If you get, give. If you learn, teach.” She was an uncommonly wise woman. God bless and keep her.

“The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still”

She sure knew the poor beast…

She was born Marguerite Ann and AP confuses easily and assumes the rest of us do too.

One of my favorite books. Hope I’ve still got it on a shelf.

RIP Maya Angelou.

Farewell, safe journey.

I always liked the idea of Maya Angelou far, far more than I did her actual poetry, which to me is obvious and trite. Sorry I just prefer a harder edge, the wisdom borne of excess, give me Bukowski, give me Rimbaud. That said, she was valuable as a symbol to many people, so RIP good lady.

A Lady of the Arts and the People. She has crossed the River Jordan to be with the likes of Phyllis Wheatley and others. RIP

I know the feeling.

Gave me the chills. She was a national treasure and she was also a wonderful singer. RIP Maya. You will be missed
