Discussion: Planned Parenthood Prez: 2016 Is 'As Toxic As I Have Ever Seen'

“I would implore people who are putting politics ahead of women’s health care and ahead of women’s safety to think carefully the rhetoric that you use, that potentially inflames this kind of activity,” she added.

Ms. Richards, that is exactly what the likes of Mike Huckabee, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz and others do – they use the exact words that they believe will inflame the unhinged among us–that way the unhinged will do their dirty work and then they can cry victim. Unfortunately, due to just plain old aging and the ginning up of the Right Wing that FOX Entertainment and AM Radio have done over the last twenty years–coupled with the runaway profiteering of the Fourth Estate–there are many upon many unhinged out there. Thank you Saint Ronnie (for deregulating the media and politicizing the FCC); thank you Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes; thank you, Mr. Limbaugh and all who followed. Thank you for creating so many crazy hateful people who see nothing wrong now with actioning their hate. You people are truly disgusting.

Edited for spelling.

Richards is assuming that the people using the “rhetoric” don’t WANT this sort of thing to happen. see, i think they do. i’ve said it elsewhere, but the GOP is a collection of Anjem Choudarys. they sit in their safe places and incite violence, and then pretend like it’s not something they specifically called for, while dodging direct questions about the motives behind their choice of words and content.

they are, literally, terrorists, just like Choudary. recruiting jihadists is no less blameworthy than being the jihadist who puts on the vest.

Ted Cruz and his friends lack the integrity to admit they support terrorism, but a lot of them cheer guys like Dear when they shoot or bomb people at Planned Parenthood facilities.

IMHO Cruz, TRump and Fiorina not only feel no responsibility for the pain they cause they don’t think they’ve been hateful enough.

Despicable assholes…

This entire post must be re-read. The thing about our situation which is the most chilling is this:

The Allies saved the world from the Nazis. Part of the result was the shift in German internal politics, including the German Fourth Estate.

But there is no outside country on earth which can save the Americans from the mess they are now in.

No outside country can swoop in and undo this, except the people themselves.

Exactly! – And that is really scary because I know how much money talks here in this ATM nation. We are in a really sick time right now. And we have to heal ourselves.

" The issue came to a head this fall when the anti-abortion group The Center for Medical Progress released multiple, heavily-edited videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue."

Is the center for medical progress an anti-abortion group and/or a terrorist cell?

If it’s any consolation, to both of us it is this:

The 60-odd percent of the electorate that does not vote is horrible.

But other countries vote in higher percentages, which tells me that this tendency in the U.S. is a social artifact…and social artifacts are subject to modification.

But to depend on people like Debbie Wasserman Schultz to unlock this riddle is asking too much. I have long advocated turning this entire thing over to the same people who augmented (admittedly, already large) youthful enthusiasm for combat service in WWII, the same people who convince poor city kids to spend hundreds of dollars in sneakers costing three dollars to make, the same people who make someone who just GOT a new cell phone feel that it’s out of date.

Professionals at persuasion. Call them “marketers”, call them “Madison Avenue”, call them “public relations” …call them ANYTHING.

But if these non-voters cannot be awakened, yes, we are toast.

There are simply not enough of people like the older Progressives (like those who post here) and the straggling Indies, Swing people and Undecideds that can stop the GOP. And note here, I am not talking about the Presidency (Hillary will probably get nominated and win).

I am talking EVERYTHING ELSE the 0.001% & GOP controls:

  • FOX
  • Talk Radio
  • The MSM
  • Most State Governorships
  • Most State Legislatures
  • The U.S, House of Representatives until 2022
  • The U.S, Senate

Just about everything else, including the corporate world

Great … and sobering post.

Yes.

These professional persuaders are already working but they’re working for the GOTP… They’re doing their best to turn off voters, especially younger voters, by droning on and on the message that government and public service in general is abhorrent, wasteful and controlling our lives.

Where are the young leaders of the Democratic party?

I would actually rather not have anyone except the (D) candidates define the tenor of their campaigns.
It’s so early yet. And only we political junkies on both sides-- and the rabid RWNJ 20%ers are even paying attention.

If a candidate gets pulled into the wallow now-- or allows surrogates to do so-- then you have to react to every shard of sh^t flung your way. What’s the purpose of expending time and $$-- when it changes no one’s mind-- and may well be recalled later to your detriment.

It’s infuriating, yes.
But so childish-- that candidates who wish to be adult-- can’t even consider stooping to reply.

The issue came to a head this fall when the anti-abortion group The Center for Medical Progress released multiple, heavily-edited videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue.

TPM – please stop repeating the blatantly false claims made by the anti-abortion extremists. PP officials were NOT discussing the “sale” of fetal tissue. They were discussing voluntary donation of fetal tissue for medical research, and legally allowed reimbursement for legitimate expenses related to these donations.

I agree jw1 however the question stands. Where & who are the local and state democratic politicians of today who will be gaining visibility in 2018? 2020? 2022? 2024?
