Discussion for article #238471
Oh, how nice of them to demonstrate their pride in their heritage to the visiting President. Because that’s not a racist symbol! It’s impocerous!
I really don’t like being reminded in such vivid detail of how backwards the place I live in is.
They’ve got their fifteen minutes of fame. But what a pathetic way to get it, celebrating “Southern Pride”.
Proud of prohibiting the practice of their slaves’ religion.
Proud of prohibiting marriage between slaves.
Proud of prohibiting property ownership by slaves.
Proud of limiting live stock ownership to chickens (no cattle allowed).
Proud of prohibiting communication in slaves native language.
Proud of beating, whipping and flogging slaves.
Proud of terrorizing blacks with public lynchings.
Proud of forcing the incarceration of blacks.
Proud of forcing blacks to labor in mines.
Proud of forcing blacks’ to labor in steel mills.
Proud of forcing blacks to labor at harvest.
Proud of forcing blacks to labor in lumber mills.
Proud of prohibiting blacks to participate in the governing process.
Proud of prohibiting literacy among blacks.
Proud of raping slaves and not acknowledging paternity.
Proud of selling off fathers, then mothers, then off-spring breaking up families & loved ones.
Proud of enforcing a regime of racial inferiority
Proud of enforcing a regime of white supremacy
Proud of The Black Codes
Proud of Jim Crow
All this white supremacy wrapped up in “State’s Rights”; a lot of pride, there in Oklahoma.
That little redneck demonstration was more about flipping the President the bird than supporting the Confederate flag.
Oh you red-neck trolls, must be so proud of yourselves…
Holding up the hate rag at the black POTUS, meh
Shouldnt the protest be against the state legislature/governor, who are now taking it down. Obama didnt order any flag to come down in any of the states.
About 10 people
OMG! The exact number of straight Apostles!
It is embarrassing to admit to being born there and having most of my kin from there.
Gooberville, U.S.A.
Insularlity, homogeneity, and the lack of exposure are coupled with never having to leave one’s county (for long, anyway).
Given that, who would value their opinions?
Having said that, they DO vote.
They vote for Congressional representation
They vote for Governor
They vote for local officials
And until those (like me) who laugh and snark on ';em MATCH their political participation, their idiocies (translated into the POLICIES supported by the people they elect) ARE of importance.
Oklahoma just mad because Oil has gone from $100 a barrel to $50 a barrel…
It’s like 10 people and one drove up from—well, let’s just say from out of state. I’ve met some very nice folks from OK and being a knucklehead transcends boundaries, really, you can find them anywhere.
Assholery knows no bounds.
I’m not sure how sorry about this I am, but it kind of reminds me of the pictures of lynchings just without the white hoods.
Does anyone else constantly have problems with linking other information here?
Racism, pure and simple.
It at least makes me feel better that the people who actually were at the speech seemed to enjoy it, and seeing most of my Facebook friends telling those Confederate flag guys to stop being such idiots.
Those people belong in a museum
Of course it is. But that’s what Confederate fandom largely is – a modern political/cultural/social war all dressed up in butternut uniforms and hoop skirts.
You gotta like the latest trend of people writing words across the Confederate flag these days. Like “Pride”, or “Heritage not Hate”, or one my daughter and I saw yesterday on the road: “Redneck”.
Here’s some more words or phrases you could write across your Confederate flag to get your point across:
“Traitor”; “Racist”; “Bigot” “Descendant of slave owners”; “We Lost!”; “Free Speech means I should be able to use the N-Word all I want”; “Republican”; “Last in Education, First in Welfare Recipients”
Any other suggestions?
