Discussion: PHOTOS: Obama Makes Historic Visit To Oklahoma Federal Prison

Discussion for article #238497

Great job, Mr. President! Obama takes the long view and, as best he can, fends off all of the criticism, grotesque and otherwise, and knows how and when to compromise. He has an uncanny sense of the concerns and dreams of many, many Americans and knows how to lead and respond. He makes me proud.

Obama is a decent human being, compassionate, empathetic.

I remember the planes carrying the dead from Iraq to Dover, and Bush, the man who sent them there, was nowhere to be seen. His mother’s incredibly callous and insensitive remark:

“Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? It’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”

How on earth did we survive the Bush years and those horrible, horrible people?! America will continue to struggle because of people like that.

I am so proud of our President who has been attacked from every quarter since his election day. President Obama through class, strength and dignity has shaped one of the most important and consequential presidencies of the last 50 years. It is shocking that people are still fooled by Ronald Reagan’s alleged achievements, though as history has shown us, his terms in office were pivotal, but not in ways that served America.

Maybe the GOP will (again) join Bibi Netanyahu in some insanely uninformed statement, this time about criminal justice reform, so Obama can shred them, just like he did on the Iran deal. It’s great having an intelligent, compassionate president, if only we have a similar Congress.

Has anyone done a count on how many right wingers have said they should have locked him up?

I congratulate the President on this historic visit. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the first President to visit a federal prison is a black man. Nobody better understands the problems of our criminal justice system than this community organizing, constitutional lawyer. And I mean that as a compliment.

Ironically, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he was treated with much more respect and dignity by the inmates than the so-called decent folk in Washington.
