Discussion for article #237164

Psst…Rick…Flying on an airplane is not a fundamental right granted to all Americans of voting age. Flying on a plane is a contract between a private company and the purchaser of the ticket. And BTW -those glasses aren’t making you smarter.

Does someone need to remind Governor Goodhair that: not everyone flies, drinks liquor, drives or smokes? One would think he’d have paid his hack advisers for a better answer!

Last time I flew, I used my driver’s license as my photo ID. I don’t believe that works in Texas when you go to vote. You have to have a SPECIAL one. Plus, I voted in the only state in the country where they didn’t even have voter REGISTRATION until just a few years ago. They had zero problems with this voter fraud the GOP is all worried about.

Stay in the race, Rick. Stay. In. The. Race. You’re pure comedy gold.

My grandparents did not fly or smoke and they were teetotalers.

It’s almost like Perry is unfamiliar with the Constitution, huh?

I wish that anyone running for President had to pass a basic civics test, perhaps the same test immigrants must pass to become U.S. citizens.

Perry said he thinks “it makes sense to have a photo ID to be able to vote.” And he brought up the requirement to present a photo ID in order to fly on commercial airplanes numerous times while defending his voter ID law.

Absolutely correct, because you never know when a voting precinct will be hijacked and flown to Cuba.

In other words, only those people with sufficient financial means to purchase airline tickets should be allowed to vote.

It’s also not entirely true.

I either got pick pocketed or lost my wallet while in NYC on business several years ago, and I was eventually allowed on the plane without an ID to return home.

It’s an apples to oranges, bullshit comparison.

I wonder if Ricky has spent his four years memorizing the three Cabinet positions he’d do away with.

It’s really, really sad that this moron is once again running for an office he’s never going to win.

Hard to believe he’ll come anywhere near the 10% cut-off.

Loser.

So let me see…if I have it right all you need to do to vote in Perryland is to show an airline ticket at the polls. That’s not so hard is it?

Ok Professor Perry. Show me in the Constitution where it says “Flying on a Plane is an inalienable right”.
Next, this asshole will claim that: “Poll Taxes make sense to me.” “I had to PAY to get on a plane, why not to vote?”

And as was the case the last time a governor of Texas was in the hunt, 2016 is shaping up to be yet another test of the voting strength of those who believe the President of the United States ought to be smarter than the average undereducated loudmouth in a bar versus those who don’t.

Because clearly, without a photo id requirement, some terrorist might sneak into a polling place, kill the election judges and fly the whole church basement or school gymnasium into the Freedom Tower.

Setting the basic stupidity of his response aside, what does universal registration have to to with showing ID to vote? They are two completely separate issues.

I “love” how people seem to not know that the Constitution states that people have a right to vote- it’s mentioned four times in fact:

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.”

“The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.”

The 15th, 19th, 24th and 26th Amendments.

Yes. You also need to pay hundreds of dollars to purchase a ticket to fly on a plane.

That proves what exactly? Oh, right… Poll taxes.

As a matter of fact, the highest high school graduation rate for African-Americans in America is in the state of Texas. The highest Hispanic graduation rate is in Texas.

These statements are correct. Do you want to know why they are correct? Because to graduate high school in Texas, you have to pass three of the five STAAR tests: Algebra I, English I, American History, Biology, and English II. Algebra and Biology only require you to score a 37% or above to pass. That is why the Texas high school graduation rate is the highest in the nation. Because the standards are so low, that a monkey randomly hitting buttons has an ~1% chance of passing the test (assuming the answers are randomly assigned between the four multiple choices). It doesn’t count as having a high graduation rate if the diploma isn’t worth the paper it is printed on.
