Discussion: Pentagon Official Accused Of Stealing License Plates In Bizarre Parking Dispute

It is amazing how so many people get really angry when someone who they feel is ā€˜beneath them’ get any sort of ā€˜privilege’ that they feel the person is not entitled to. It is no different than the stares food stamp users get.

Good grief.

Bizarre? Maybe. But it’s certainly common enough from the ā€œfolks who know bestā€. That is all the authority these folks need–a belief in one’s own perfect infallibility.

So…the parking pass situation…nutty delusion or, if real, any nanny blowback? A nanny insurgent?

That needs about 100+ likes.

That may be part of it, but people really lose their shit over public parking… on a public street… which the public themselves own… and start quoting the Constitution, acting like they’re carrying a burning brand of righteousness, and have no problem lying through their teeth to justify their wrong-headed actions. Funny how a technically intelligent educated person is willing to literally break the law over a perceived parking permit infraction instead of just fucking talking to the object of their ire in a grown up way.

Know whose fault this is? Bernie Bros. I’m sure of it.

I’m surprised that stealing license plates has such a minor penalty.

That’s serious criminal activity.

Pet peeves causing mischief.

I’ve seen it more than once. A classic one is where Driver 1 has pulled just ahead of a parallel parking spot, with the intention of backing into the spot. Meanwhile, Driver 2, the next car back, sees the same spot and starts to pull into it nose-forward.

This is often only half-successful, since there was a reason Driver 1 was going to back into the spot – it’s too tight to go easily maneuver into forward. So Driver 2 struggles forward and backward trying to get themselves fully into the spot, or maybe gives up and waits at an awkward nose-in angle, hoping Driver 1 will give up and leave so that Driver 2 can pull out, pull forward, and back in like Driver 1 was planning to do in the first place.

Meanwhile Driver 1 isn’t about to give up that easily, and sits there honking their horn and swearing and gesturing, and maybe gets out and confronts Driver 2, verbally and/or physically, over the ā€œstolenā€ parking spot.

I bet I’m not the only one here who has witnessed some version of that scenario play out numerous times.

ā€œI know you are misusing this visitor pass to park here daily,ā€ the note read, according to the report. ā€œIf you do not stop I will report it, have your car towed and the resident who provided this to you will have his privileges taken away.ā€

Who knew Big Brother is a Public Affairs official at the Pentagon?

The tone of that note is creepy and punitive. As if he’d spent a lot of time lurking in the bushes just watching and seething and plotting his revenge.

I once had a city bus driver stop his bus, and get out to yell at me because the nose of my car–maybe all of five feet of it–was in a buses only lane. I would have reacted apologetically and moved if empty buses only parking lane hadn’t had space enough in front of me for 5 full sized city buses. As it was I reacted…somewhat badly. Someone actually got off the bus to diffuse the situation; in the 30+ years since than, that person has become one of my closest friends. Funny how things work out sometimes.

He’s lucky he got off lightly — he could have found himself making license plates for a living.

I bet he also owns guns.
