Discussion: Pence Quotes From King's 'I Have A Dream' Speech In Pitch For Wall Money

I recall that Michael Jordan, in his sojourn in the Minor (baseball) Leagues got a little above that line…(was it batting 200?)

Pence quotes from Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have A Dream” speech to argue for Trump’s latest pitch for wall money: “Now is the time to make real the promises of Democracy.”

If The Human Q-Tip truly believes this, then he should resign immediately. His election is an aberration of true democracy, since he was not elected by a majority of voters. He was elected by a majority of very partisan state electors.

That, and The Human Q-Tip shouldn’t be quoting MLK, Jr, since the administration of THE WORLD-WIDE ASSHOLE and The Human Q-Tip is obviously racist.

Yes. The line is demarcated at .200, although Mendoza was a lifetime .215 hitter; Jordan batted a .202 during his season with the Birmingham Barons, in 1994.

Pence’s attempt to positively compare Trump’s plan for a wall with the sentiments of MLK can only be characterized by one word: perverse.

Zombie MLK should have appeared and torn Pence’s head off for that.

This is probably the first time he’s seen the speech.

I was always fascinated with Gorman Thomas, who had a lifetime average around .225 and was a monster with homers and RBI.

Can’t wait til he tries.

I’m going to venture back out on the proverbial limb and guess that the number of “average Americans” in Brody’s universe is nil.

Pence and Drumpf have so much disdain for the American People. It screams at you.

The discipline that people like Chuck Todd and the like have in hiding that speaks to Mueller-like control.

But…it may just be the money

… And Mexico will pay for it!
I actually saw someone on CNN proud that she voted for Trump, and she “knew Mexico wouldn’t pay it.” Whaaah? You voted for a serial con artist knowing that 50% of his Wall speech is a lie? And why are you on CNN? Because you like to be lied to?

Pence is pulling MLK to promote Trump’s non-compromise?

Pence’s speechwriters think, “It’s MLK day. Let’s work in a quote.” What legitimate reason could he possibly have to quote MLK? None. So, there you have it.

“a compromise snubbed”

yet another reason I largely ignore the Twisted Times.

It is both infuriating and informative that these people have neither the respect nor understanding of words. They only see words as simple tools to trigger people and build a facade. They have likely never intentionally told the truth in their lifetime. The foil to this are the people who do understand the meaning, depth and purpose of words. There are more of those than people like Pence may appreciate.

With a career batting average of .200 the inimitable Bob Uecker should’ve had the line named after him.

BTW Although Uecker always proudly proclaimed he held the record for most passed balls, it was only for one year — his last — when 33 pitches passed by untouched; he’s ranked at #263 for that honor, along with 11 other catchers.

When asked why so many pitches got by him, “Mr. Baseball” noted that major league pitchers throw the ball “really hard” and explained, simply, “I didn’t want to get hit.”

Shutting down the government to achieve, through blackmail, what you are unable to achieve legislatively is not democracy: It’s authoritarianism. For these people, words and the context in which they are spoken have no meaning.

You’re right. Maddow does what she does very well, and it’s made her a media darling and driven up MSNBC’s rating. That’s fine. But I find I watch her less and less because I see paranoia in her commentary more and more (not to mention reading tedious courtroom transcripts out loud). O’Donnell on the other hand worked in the senate and for a senator, knows the ins and outs of Congress, is a writer and producer, think The West Wing, and a humanitarian with his work for the K.I.N.D. fund. This might make ME different.
