In 2016 it was Hillary Clinton/Obama (the Bitch and the Ni(CLANG!)er) who they provided as “Enemies” that the MSM gleefully jumped on the bandwagon for because it increased their profits, but both of them are receding into the substance-addled memories of their base and the MSM is showing disturbing signs of actually reporting the TRUTH (the Horror! the Horror!) so they need something NEW AND SHINY to get the MSM and their base back on their side.
The perfect thing for them is to create a “Vast Liberal Conspiracy” that they can make dark references to during their Nuremberg rallies, and get tons of press by having the Republican Senate perform “kabuki theater” investigations into (just like they did with Hillary/Obama in 2016) with the cherry on top of the AG and the DOJ investigating the FBI and anyone else who dares to oppose Dear Leader and his cronies.

I’m wondering if they aren’t more constrained than they pretend or think here. Do they really want to go through a formal process in which the intelligence community explains exactly what they were concerned about? The administration can assert that they were spied on for political reasons, but the facts tell a different story. And there are enough non-stupid people on their side to point out this problem.

I think it’s too late. All the information needed to understand that there was and continues to be concern about this gang’s Russian entanglements is copiously available in numerous wildly public records. Even with the bully pulpit, baseless assertions only get you so far. And I think the one inescapable fact is that a lot of people who shrugged and voted for Trump in '16 now have a fairly fixed view of him as an incompetent, crooked vulgarian. None of his braying changes that.
The Trump 2020 campaign will openly and heavily rely on help from foreigners, and say “Eff you” to anyone that objects.
