Meet the new boss same as the old…
Oh wait…
I do detect a wiff of fresh air
Pelosi said Wednesday she didn’t think that what happened in the New York Queens district was reflective of a broader trend in the party.
The horror, the horror!
Wondering if she congratulated the winner.
If NPelosi is as smart as i believe her to be, she’ll see to it that one of her more vocal critics gets this lower-ranked ‘leadership post’ designation and thereby heads off any ill-conceived party fracture ahead of November.
And where’s the part where she says "And I look forward to welcoming Alexandria to the House where I know she will serve New Yorkers and the nation brilliantly.
Come on, Nancy, now is the time we have to band together, no matter what. Your guy was able to congratulate her and pledge support. You have to show the same unity.
This is a changing of the guard. It’s a good thing. The younger generation has found its voice and voted. We old farts do have a purpose and a history worthy of them listening to and learning from but if we’re honest we don’t have all the answers and should be willing and able to follow the “kids” and support them. They don’t have all the answers but find me someone who does or ever did. It’s their moment and I’m onboard.

I didn’t hear the question she was responding to, so I’m not going to dunk on her for this. For instance if the question was whether a “socialist” winning this race was indicative of the Democratic party going “hard left” then I can easily understand why she would respond that way.
But clearly, while this was just one race, it certainly is reflective of several broader trends in the party, including:
- The party moving to the left, overall.
- Increased enthusiasm and activation at the grassroots level.
- Many female candidates running in primary contests, and in many cases winning.
- A new generation of young leaders coming of age and contesting the power of the old guard.
- POC increasingly asserting their power in a party where they form a crucial part of the base.
- Insurgent candidates rejecting the traditional corporate / large dollar fundraising model.
None of these factors are bad for the party. All of these factors can contribute to renewing and strengthening the party. This IS “what democracy looks like!”

WHAAAAT? Nancy doesn’t think this reflects a broader trend in the party? That this doesn’t mean the people want someone younger, of color, and accountable to them rather than big donors? These yahoos don’t even pretend to try to have a plan to make things better for the people!
Holy moly she and exceedingly “civil” partner Schumer need to exit the stage in the worst way. That perspective means she thinks there is no need to change the party! If that is her take-away from the last three years she needs to step down right now. They all need to go.
OMG, this is not 15, 10, or 5 years ago! (and crippling back then, too) :
“Impeachment is off the table”
“We need to be civil. Un-American to shame and shun these fascists”
“We have to win over those suburban conservatives”
“Don’t take any controversial opinions”
“Hire the same old entitled, rich campaign consultants if you want money”
“If you want to be in the club, Dem Rep, spend more than half of your day begging for big money”
“If a candidate won’t kowtow to the us, the Dem powers that be, we will try to beat them in a primary”
“Look, here’s our comm strategy: we’re trying out this weak slogan to convince the common people we care about them. What do you think?”
“Don’t get excited about the fight, or about elections, you’ll make those Repubs so mad they will vote!”
“We need unity for the midterms. That means the DCCC candidate’s opponent must stop campaigning”
“We really can’t be bothered to investigate elections, insist on paper handcounted ballots, or even to insist on a recount, even if the results are quite fishy for many different reasons. We should just trust the Republicans running the elections”
“We don’t think this landslide win over a powerful incumbent (or progressives winning Virginia elections, or the popularity of Bernie Sanders) reflects a broader trend in the party. The Dems have been so successful at elections since back when I was first the speaker of the House that there is really no need to make any changes!”
I can’t take it any more.
For God’s sake, step down and let someone lead who will vigorously fight, not surrender before the battle even starts.Someone wo will get angry about the kids in cages! The Dem leadership must get out of the way, since they don’t even acknowledge that there is a progressive challenge to their rule.
Nancy “Pay-Go” Pelosi has the sadz.
Another progressive Democratic candidate wins a primary and refuses to endorse her for Democratic leader. Maybe it is because Nancy “Pay-Go” Pelosi’s overall approval rating sunk to a 9-year low of 29% according to a new Gallup poll published yesterday. Maybe because her approval rating among Democrats is at 55%.
Maybe it is time for her to go.
He was a real gentleman. Well Nancy we are not looking for ladylike and gentlemen like behavior in our candidates. We have a bad bad president in office, he is guilty of impeachable offense is. And the bad ass it replaced the gentleman in question here says it like it is . Wow are you on the other hand would indicate like you did with George W. Bush who started illegal war that impeachment was off the table and I guess you’re going for the same thing here well we don’t want it that way so step up listen to us show us your bad ass behavior we hear you have and be rewarded tenfold or get out of the way. The 28-year-old replaced the gentleman message in a strong way. Plain English she will run on the basis of impeaching the unlawful president in the White House. There’s too much at stake here. In case you haven’t noticed Nancy. Continued silence from the leadership in Congress is deafening, there’s something wrong with the way you’re delivering your message since there doesn’t seem to be one only to comment on how gentlemanly like someone was. We ain’t looking for gentlemen and ladies we are looking for a bad ass Democrats that will take the bandits in the White House to task can’t be much plainer than that again get on board or get out-of-the-way.
And it’s not like I’m a newcomer to this party I’ve been here as long as you have with the most as long. I am a bad ass from the old school and have felt for a very long time now that we appear to be weak by the message is delivered from the leader ship from the Democrat party. Clearly your message is old worn out and does not come close to getting rid of the illegal behavior from the present administration. Are you strong enough Nancy to step aside? I celebrate our new leader ship I’m of age and I will support them and speak up when clearly it is needed. If it came to voting for you for this young lady or someone like her I would vote for her over you any day of the week. You are a week or appear to be if you’re not Change the appearance in which you project yourself to the public because that’s all we see is spineless and weak deafening.
Meh. The party will flounder and fracture anyway. Team Unicorn will over-read the tea leaves, start behaving insufferably smug based on a couple election successes and then try to take over by making all sorts of wild demands that the party essentially make a rainbow wish-list agenda or they’ll hold their votes hostage. Then, when it becomes apparent that this isn’t a total changing of the guard and takeover, that people with a lot more experience and practical understanding of what is incrementally possible aren’t just going to roll over, they’ll make good on their threat, handing RBG’s and Kennedy’s seats on the SCOTUS to the GOP in or even before 2020. I really don’t see them being satisfied with anything less than everyone being cowed and acquiescing to them claiming “this is OUR party now”. Sure, the actual reps might behave well, but I foresee another uprising of Berniebot behavior from people who aren’t satisfied with shooting just one of their feet off.
Both in her official statement and on twitter Pelosi and Crowley both congratulated Ocasio-Cortez on her win. Crowley also tweeted that he sould support and vote for her in the general election. There is no animosity between Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez, though seems quite a few folks here want to manufacture it.
Of course she did. You’re flirting with a logical fallacy: just because out of context partial quotes were reported, doesn’t mean that’s all she said.
Dog knows the senior staff has to go some day. Training their replacements is an important part of their legacy.
To be fair, she’s right. Berniebots rejected the party and its candidate and helped give us Trump and Gorsuch, so it’s pretty hard to make an argument that it’s a trend WITHIN the party. Is it a larger trend in the liberal movement? Sure. But not in the party. Berniebots et al, proudly declared themselves outsiders and perceive themselves as such, and they simply want to take over the party machinery, because it’s easier than building their own.
And before the butthurt starts: I’m not a registered Dem. I’m simply a liberal/progressive who agrees with a lot of the sentiment in what you said…the need to fight harder, get angrier, be louder, etc. etc. I’ve been preaching it here myself for years. But what I won’t agree to is impractical Team Unicorn nonsense and the nose-spite-face pantwetting that accompanies it. People need to get their expectations in line with reality or they’re just going to do more damage than good.
Pelosi needs to go for two reasons
-
She (and her entire leadership team) are unfortunately too old — messaging isn’t just about words, its about the way things look and sound. Regardless of what Pelosi, Hoyer, and Clyburn are saying, the message that comes across is about a sclerotic party that is stuck in the past.
-
She is incapable of providing messaging leadership. A few weeks ago, the Dems introduced what was actually an effective slogan/meme to paint the Trump admin: “Chaos and Corruption”. The fact that Pelosi was unable to get her caucus to use those three highly effective words at every opportunity demonsstrates that she no longer understands, or has the skills to implement, a proper messaging strategy.
She just needs to go. Call your closest Democratic Congressman and ask they pull support.
Ah, @tomanjeri, the voice of sanity, sort of like an oasis in a desert of crazy. All the problems of the party including why its voters didn’t come out in 2016 are laid at one woman’s feet. All the problems in the past and even in the future are her doing. Why, she’s as big a villain as the Koch brothers, the Mercer family, Shelly Adelson and the five man right wing of SCOTUS and all wrapped up in one person.
She needs to GO…
