Discussion: Pelosi Visibly Shocked At News Of Boxer Retirement

Discussion for article #231783

Feinstein’s time is limited too given age. There is a time to move on but this can be a big deal. It is far from impossible that a Republican can get one of the two seats.

Boxer and Feinstein have done a great job for California and this Country. They can’t live forever and they do deserve to enjoy what life remains under their own terms.

It’s actually quite a long shot for GOP’er to win a statewide election in Cali.

Watch the John Birchers (Fred C. Koch twins) try and machine someone like Kash and Carry or some red neck Hispanic like Maldonado because ‘Spanish’ into her spot and expect clowns like Villaraigossa (needs a job after slobbering charter schools and non effective governance all over Los Angles) to try and fill the vacuum.

What will happen is anyone’s guess but, (despite the cheer leading) there is no way anyone from the GOP will make the grade and be able to beat the eventual Democrat nominee, simply out of the realm of reason. Ask Meg or Carley.

Wrong, if you lived here (?) you would know that. The GOP will try and run the Evangelical mayor of Fresno though, that should bring out the OC and SD church heads.

I, too, am shocked. I thought election to Congress was a lifetime position. After all, my own Senator, Orrin Hatch, has held the position for nearly 40 years. While he has said he won’t run again, I assume he will hang on to the job until nothing remains of him but dust.

California has a jungle primary. The top-two candidates go to the general election, regardless of party.

It’s entirely possible that we might not have a Republican candidate, if they’re stupid enough.

Seems like when the fight gets rough these folks retire.

Strange how our aged leaders resemble the old Politburo while the American media’s young, fresh darling is 2nd in line to the British throne…

Oh, I realize that was the one achievement Arnold saddled us with which makes things sticky, so rich GOPer businessmen come to the trough now, laden with saddle bags filled from the mines up on ‘Sierra Madre’ Villa. When I was a HS student at PHS I was dating a cheerleader for 15 seconds until her mother (I was invited to a YAFF tea at their home) saw I was spawn of a blue collar cop family.

It will be fun to watch though CC.

He’s already done that.

NOBODY is shocked, least of all Nancy Pelosi. Boxer hasn’t been fund raising for quite some time. This is no surprise, she signaled it months ago.

Senator ISSA!!!

There are many brilliant, competent California Democrats waiting in the wings for a shot at the Senate, two that come to mind are Gavin Newsom Lt. Governor, and Kamala Harris, California AG. Californians (like myself) have been following the predictions and updates about Boxer’s future for a while now.

There are no republicans holding statewide offices in California. It is truly a blue state, just the way I like it.

Not true or accurate. Boxer is 74, not an unreasonable age to retire from any field, and she has in fact been a fighter for 20 years.

Remember the scene in A Christmas Story where the mom sticks soap in her son’s mouth because he’s been cussing? Using Issa and Senate in the same sentence is the equivalent.

OMG. It occurred to me that GOOPS would try to encourage McCarthy from Bakersfield. He’ll be getting attention since he’s in the House leadership and will have some name recognition…

All it takes is three (or more) Dem candidates splitting the vote just right with two GOPers splitting it evenly, and you could end up with two GOP candidates on the ballot and no Dem. It’s far from impossible, especially with as many Dems who will want to run for the seat and the lack of big GOP names in the state.
