Discussion for article #245192
I wish we could clone Nancy Pelosi. She’s got more brains and savvy in one little finger than damned near any other Democrat around. Plus she’s always been and remains one of the best and most dedicated Democrats you can find.
I’m tired of old rich politicians telling us what we can and cannot have.
By “old rich politicians,” are you referring to the expert on what can and cannot be moved through the current House of Representatives, on what is utterly unrealistic in 2016 – or are you simply objecting to someone who’s saying something you don’t want to hear?
threw shade
Pretty soon I’ll be too unhip to read TPM.
She’s finally mentioned the elephant in the room. Sanders is running for President on a platform of raising taxes. The last person to try that was Walter Mondale.
“It’s no use having a conversation about something that’s not going to happen.”
And if we continue to never have the conversation, it will definitely never happen.
Yeah, who made her representative for 29 years anyway? Oh, the voters of her district which covers 4/5 of San Francisco.
Looks like as they approach the first icebergs, it’s all hands on deck for Hillary. The question is how big those icebergs are under the water line, and what the crew is prepared to do in an emergency, other than re-arrange the deck chairs. We shall see. (Or if Hillary wins big in Iowa, we won’t).
The path to single-payer if through expansion of Medicare within the ACA framework.
Actually it is more about Sander’s idealism meeting political reality.
Lol. I thought the same thing. But I’ve always been one to love learning new things.
I must admit, what Rep. Pelosi had to say is not what I would like to hear – but what she said is what I want, and that is the truth. As a former San Franciscan, I am proud to have voted for Nancy Pelosi numerous times. Pelosi is arguably the best Speaker of the House I’ve seen in my lifetime.
I personally do wish our nation had a single-payer, Medicare-for-All style health coverage. I understand that at this time, that’s an impossible dream. That said, I want the idea to not die, not go away. If Nancy Pelosi is still serving as a member of Congress when the time is right, I do trust she will do her part do see to it the conversation is had.
Yes, it’s definitely about that on the Sanders side.
Why not try to move it though? If it will get killed, so be it. What is wrong with trying?
Probably it’s a matter of knowing what and when to pick your battles.
The fact that you use the term “unhip” is not a good sign. ![]()
Eh, what’s that you say about my hip?
I guess why hasn’t some up an coming Dem said, “hey I think I could a better job.” If you can tell me the answers is not old rich people and infrastructures that support her, be my guest and I will humbly take it.
Well, how many years and how much political capital are we willing to spend? The ACA is an amazing accomplishment. I wish it were better. But it would be pretty dumb to throw it away now and start over. Maybe we could be a little cool for a couple years.
