Discussion: Pelosi Scrambles To Put Out Fires As Her Infuriated Members Call For Impeachment

Let us all be grateful to Donald Trump for protecting us from the sight of Stars of the Walmart Shoppers Internet Meme completely naked.
:scream:

Listen to Nancy, how did Democrat’s successfully impeach Nixon? A case
built block by block of overwhelming impeachment evidence the public had
a chance to see, digest, and understand. A case carefully built few,
even sycophant Congressional Republicans, feared to oppose the public
opinion tidal wave. Hold your powder, the damning Mueller Report is
still being digested, damning witnesses about to testify, additional
damning documents and proof about to be revealed, only the 1st court
case of many to follow just won. Why like an unprepared impatient child
foolishly give Trump and Republicans an inch of diversionary room to
attempt deflection and confusion of the public with an impeachment
battle won but a as of now the more important Senate trial loss. Which
might even affect or tighten the now sure war winning 2020 election
victory. Don’t be stampeded or diverted, clam, cool, thorough, and
steady continuing success and public schooling will win the war.

I will. Trump is fighting hearings on the Mueller Report for good reason.

I don’t see his base as a cult following. There might be a percentage who actually are forever for Trump. But Nixon had his unshakeable base, reflected in the poll I cited here. Do you see the 24% support that in spite of all the evidence and the release of the Nixon tapes refused to abandon him. There’s a cult there, documented.

During the Manafort trial there were a MAGA (cult?) juror who wanted Manafort to be found not guilty. She believed the investigation was a witch hunt. Why did the special prosecutors let her on the jury? What did they know? Well she ended voting to convict him on all 18 counts. After the trial ended she still thought the Mueller Investigation was a witch hunt. But the evidence in the case before her was clear.

I have spent years talking to people on the right. They believe everything the press says is bullshit, until you prove it. Before Trump came along they believed in fake news. Proof is bipartisan findings of a congressional investigation, special investigations findings, and the results of a trial. So let the hearings begin.

The media is bullshit. They do a lot of good but they also bullshit a lot for sales. They and Washington have created a buffer (veil) between the coasts and the red states. When AOC views are heavily criticized by fox commentators and she gets the support of fox news viewers the veil is temporarily pulled. Fox News viewers agreeing with a Democratic Socialist? The same happened when Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg appearances on Fox News town halls.

I see (MAGA) people as people left behind who have tied their hopes to Trump. They can be influenced (Pete Buttigieg, and Bernie Sanders on Fox News and AOC ideas supported by Fox News viewers) . They have been screwed (LEFT BEHIND) by both Democrats and Republicans. That’s why those rust belt states went for Trump over Clinton. Too many Democratic promises unfulfilled and condescension from the coasts.

Wouldn’t shock me if Donnie Moscow then ordered him released, including use of force, because he’s the big cheese.

I was patient at first. I understood Pelosi’s original argument against impeachment. But, since then, my inbox has been absolutely loaded with fundraising emails with hair-on-fire level of panic in the subject lines. When the DCCC needs money, it’s all about what an existential threat Trump is. When it’s time to act the story changes completely.

And THAT is why I’ve lost faith in Democratic leadership - not because they aren’t moving fast enough for my liking.

So if you and I know this, what’s the hold up with the people whose job it is to understand and perform these tasks?

IOW, what the hell are they waiting for?

doesn’t it have to be assigned to a panel first? Who does that? Is it some kind of automatic process?

Now is premature. You see the court’s strident rejection of his claim about the taxes, (yesterday)? Let’s get the court to keep rejecting Trump’s hair brain assertions that he is King. Let the momentum build against Trump.
Doing it now would be misfiring. We might not get a second shot.(intended)

Thanks for your response. I confess I don’t understand the rush to impeach as opposed to vigorous investigations by House committees followed up by court challenges to noncompliance with subpoenas.

Trump and gang will stall either way the House goes.

It’s also a STFU since impeachment would take investigation out of the Democratically controlled house and dump it into Mitch’s lap in the Senate.

That’s just a bad solution unless you want a sham trial.

If the Dems take the Senate in 2020 and somehow Trump defeats whichever Dem is the presidetial candidate, you better bet impeachment will start up.

I hear you. But at this point just watching the back-and-forth of Congress calling witnesses, getting rebuffed, issuing subpoenas that will predictably be ignored, dragging it out in court
it has become an endless loop of Democrats wistfully hoping the law still works, and Republicans thumbing their nose at it.

Here at TPM, we watch every lob and serve like avid tennis fans, but most of the country doesn’t care. Besides the legal maneuvering, Democrats need a symbolic move that shows strength and decisiveness. Endless rounds of jawing doesn’t fill the bill.

Time to change the game. Everybody knows what impeachment is. Impeachment hearings get headlines. The House will be exposing trump’s crimes in great detail, and the media will find it delicious.

It’s 18 months to the election.

How long do you think impeachment hearings would take to investigate the mountains of crimes committed by trump, his family, and the compromised Republicans? The House can take as long as they want to make deep dives into the treason, money-laundering, tax fraud, bank fraud, and everything connected to them. They don’t EVER have to refer it to the Senate. It’s totally their call.

Sure, we know what McConnell does to all norms and rules and even the law. He doesn’t give a shit. There’s no advantage to a trial in the Senate. But then, we never have to have one.

Meanwhile, Republicans will be nervously watching the dissolution and trashing of their party on TV every day, and continually doing the math to figure out whether to stay on the trump train or bail. Some might go neutral or flip like Amash. Every Democrat can campaign on it. There is no bigger issue right now than preserving our democracy.

Let’s cool our heels for just a bit.
Why not check out the money laundering allegations, look at the taxes, compare both sets of books, and hear the testimony of Don McGahn and Robert Mueller? Then, caucus to decide whether to proceed with impeachment steps, or not.
Just a bit more of getting our ducks in a row; that’s all !

There is no doubt Speaker Pelosi has the smarts but, as the article mentioned, her lack of effectual speaking power is a definite weakness that makes her appear to be unsure, breathless and elderly and difficult to listen to. She does not have natural stage presence like AOC and Obama and it holds back getting her message across powerfully when her position calls for it. She does need a strong spokesperson. I think voice timbre is a difficulty for many women speakers and candidates need to take voice projection lessons in many cases.

I get the feeling the “infuriated” members are going to realize quickly NOT TO FUCK WITH HER.

So how NDP delivers a message, “unsure, breathless, etc” is more important than the message itself. Can you now explain how she managed to stay in the House for 30 years and become speaker again after losing it because clearly all these faults should have brought her down a long time ago.

I see the ‘progressive’ SANDERS hands in this brou- ha-ha
its what he does

.

It I’ll be fast tracked my guess this issue will be done by July

That one I don’t know the answer toz

Why pass articles?
Assemble evidence, findings and a potential charge and put it in a file for the committee to vote on later.
Move to the next item, assemble evidence, findings and a potential charge and put it in a file for the committee to vote on later.
Etc.

There are a double digit number of potential articles. So many that they need not all be bundled into a single set.
Discrete sets of say 4-8 could be aggregated for related offenses, and voted out of committee to the House, over a few weeks.
The House would need to consider them, review the evidence, hold some debate, and table until the rest are voted out of committee.
It could be March before a full House vote was scheduled for the full package. May for the Senate
when is the GOP convention, again?
