Discussion: Pelosi Punts On Impeachment Despite Trump's Remark On Accepting Foreign Dirt

IMPEACH the motherfucker

Just remember how the Democrats after Obama got elected didn’t want to pursue investigations into the false run-up to the Iraq war in order to ‘heal’ and ‘bring us together’ and look what that got us… John Bolton back in the WH trying to start a war with Iran, the WH still spinning intel and the GOP still never working with Dems.

She’s just not into it. I’m amazed people haven’t figured that out yet.

Jesus wept, Nancy. Why don’t you just pack up and go home. Our children will likely pay the bill for your timidity.

There are at least three sets of hiders.

(1) The GOP Senate which is about 99% of the problem
(2) Dem House members hesitant to come forward because of their idea of political considerations
(3) People in the General Public for whom “politics” takes a back seat to a number of things

OT I liked how Nance slipped in the GOP Senate in the interview

Then you’re a naive fool.

Clearly, the guys who’ve never held any elective office, hang out on WiFi, and rage post to TPM know way more than a woman who clawed her way up the greasy pole – through decades of sexist opposition that fatally underestimated her unrivaled political skills – to lead Dems in a historic midtem swing during the last election.

Nope, she’s just a piker compared to a few folks here with so much more political knowledge and experience.

The idea that she “led” the Dems in the 2018 midterms is a joke. Many of those same Dems refused to vote for her as speaker. And home many of those Dems welcomed her to campaign for them?

That she managed to climb to the top of the Dem caucus is reflection of how of the low quality of her opposition on the House. Outmaneuvering Steny Hoyer is hardly the biggest pelt one can nail to the wall. She’s plenty ambitious - for herself. Her ambition for the country is for the country to continue having Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

Still attempting to defend the indefensible with nothing more than hyperbole I see.

You’ve let Pelosi get into your head. We’ve never had a situation where there was a public approval threshold BEFORE STARTING AN IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY. This is a Pelosi gambit. It’s a political decision and it’s a stupid one.

The impeachments of Clinton and Nixon were much less popular than the impeachment of Trump is today. That unpopularity didn’t stop the impeaching party from starting the inquiry and reaping the benefits.

And all y’all still won’t deal with the costs of not impeaching. You just saw yesterday what Trump is going to do while you wait for that ‘ballot box’ option. Stop overthinking this and stop buying Pelosi’s rhetoric. Question it. Challenge it. She’s choosing not to exercise power which the House uniquely has while Trump burns the country and the Republic to the ground. You should put the burden on those leaders to justify their positions rather than accept patently absurd explanations like ‘impeaching is what he wants’.

Indeed. Something people may have forgotten is just how well the “keep the powder dry” strategy worked 15 years ago. Bush lied to start a war, torture happened on his watch, and Democrats did nothing. We were assured he could not possibly win re-election, and then he did.

“But not any one issue is going to trigger, ‘Oh, now we’ll go do this’ because it’s about investigating, it’s about litigating, it’s about getting the truth to hold everyone accountable, and no one is above the law,” she continued.

So she talks about enforcing the law. But she isn’t actually willing to do anything.

She’s going to slow-walk this until it’s far too late. We’re already two months past the release of the Mueller report, and the House isn’t an iota closer to impeachment proceedings.

It’s not like she’s been dishonest here. She’s been very clear. She doesn’t want to impeach. She won’t let anybody else start impeachment inquiries. There isn’t a “cautious, orderly” plan here. The plan is to do nothing and hope they win the election next year.

Because, in their minds, what would be really bad is to be exposed as powerless. As long as they can talk about having power, their weakness won’t have been exposed.

The optics on this are horrible. Increasingly it looks like Donald could shoot someone on 5th Ave and not only would not loose a single supporter, Pelosi wouldn’t impeach him.

Just remember when Obama wouldn’t say the magic words “Radical Islamic Terrorism” and how that “proved he was soft on terrorism”, as though Obama uttering the magic words would have changed anything in the real world. The same kind of word fixation myopia is happening here.

You’re killing me, Nancy.

The Pelosi family is no stranger to the Trump family. She isn’t going to rock the .01% boat. Not today, not ever. How would that go over at the next black tie event? What would Paul Pelosi say to Ivanka? AWKWARD.

When people ask them why they don’t stop Trump from running amok, congress critters from both sides of the aisle will say . . .

Trying to figure out Pelosi’s game plan here, as I assume she is a strategic thinker and not simply reacting to events… One possibility that occurs to me is that she wants to stretch the “discovery” phase out long enough to reveal all GOP involvement, not just the guilt of those in the direct Trump orbit. Given what’s known already about Mitch, Ryan, Nunes, the NRA, etc., she may be hoping to build awareness in the voting public generally that it’s the entire party that’s dirty, not just Trump. If successful, this would put the GOP in the wilderness for at least a decade, if not end the party as we know it today. crosses fingers

Adopting a sarcastic tone doesn’t really constitute much of an argument.

The game is simple. She’s against impeachment and she’s gonna slow walk this thing into 2020 when she tells Dems that impeachment is moot, turn your energy to giving donations, time and vote. That’s what she did in 2018. The thing is, when you’re actually in power people expect you to do some things.

Yeah, maybe, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the game, as she keeps pointing out the egregious things that Trump’s people as well as other GOPers are doing. It would be one thing to hold hearings on and impeach Trump only to have McConnell ignore the articles, but quite another to have hearings on the wide array of bad behavior in the Greedy Oligarch Party including Trump’s and have it appear day after day, week after week until the election, culminating in a broad array of impeachments and FBI referrals.
