Can’t we have both?

Not mutually exclusive, my friend. I’m greedy. I want it all.

Before the storm of Pelosi bashing comes in, here’s a paragraph from that article:
“They said she was expressing solidarity with pro-impeachment Democrats who want to hold the president accountable while disputing the idea that it is now time to take that step.”
I don’t think it means what the title suggests.

Legally, yes, even if he is impeached by the House and then acquitted by the Senate.

Of course, you want to see him in prison, Grandma Pelosi, because that means you can pass the buck to a prosecutor.

Yeah! Let’s throw Trump’s corrupted ass in solitary confinement in Rikers Island with his pal Paul Manafort!!!

But but but, wouldn’t it be helpful to the whole world if the whole trump mob was sent to prison all together,
at once forever?
seems like it would be a huge bigly relief for say, 195 countries

The big thing is he needs to be replaced by a competent adult. I have no doubt he- and his family- are culpable. Probably a good idea to be careful not to make a martyr for a cause, even if that cause is one that you may despise.

That’s a remarkably stupid remark for the Speaker of the House. Whatever she thinks of Trump (and her opinion of the man cannot be lower than mine), she needs to work with him, or at least to look like she’s trying, for the next 18 months. To call the man a crook outright will only justify his outrageous behavior toward her and the House, and make her look every bit as partisan as the bitterest Republican.

This is a leaf that should NOT have been stolen from the Republican playbook.

Even if he were convicted by the Senate he could be prosecuted for criminal acts. The Senate judgment would only lead to expulsion from office. Then, as a private citizen, he could be prosecuted.

And she is right about this - the guy is a criminal. Impeaching him gives him the attention he wants and, so what, throws him out of office, back into the life he’s had.

Actual trials puts him in prison and he loses everything.

Both? Sure, but I’d much rather see this. And that’s what SDNY and all the rest are pushing toward.

You said it.

That’s true as well.

Let’s be realistic here - Impeaching Trump will mollify the base of the Dems, while hardening Trump’s base. The real question is: “What will it do to the no-party affiliation and lazy voter?” Will it inspire them to come out and vote Trump out of office? OR, will it cause the opposite effect, and keep people from heading to the polls in November, 2020?

I’m pretty sure that with the right candidate, Dems can get the turn out needed to defeat Trump. But I’m also pretty sure that if we spend the next 15 months beating the drum of impeachment, we lose the momentum needed to galvanize voters to defeat him behind whomever is the Democratic nominee.

Keep the hearings going, but keep advancing bills through the House to show America that Democratic Party values actually advance the health and welfare of all Americans, and not just those in power.
