Discussion: Pelosi On Impeachment: ‘Wasting Your Time’ Unless Convincing Enough For GOP

Stay strong Pelosi. We know the Rethugs will absolutely NEVER get it.

Also forces the Repugs to take the first concrete step (if they finally decide to try to save their party).

Screw the Republicans. Lets do what we can now. When and if the Dems take the Senate impeachment becomes a reality, assuming Fat Donny is still around.

Dems won’t have an opportunity to take the Senate until after the 2020 election and even then we’re not picking up 20 seats. Most of all, I hope to all the gods and goddesses he’s not still president or we’ll have much bigger problems.

Pelosi’s political instincts on the impeachment issue in specific and on political issues in general is why she is he most successful Speaker of the House in at least the last 50 years or more. Knowing what is possible as opposed to what is desirable separates the successful Speaker from the unsuccessful. Just compare Pelosi with her immediate predecessor Mr. Ryan. She manages the debate and he managed to get a Post Office named.

I promise you that NO ONE wants the Traitor-on-Chief impeached, convicted, and imprisoned more than I do but, that said, I am against impeachment. Why? The moment an impeachment process gets underway, every single political story and discussion from now until November 3, 2020 will be filtered through that lense. If there is no move to impeach, the GOPsters lose their most effective talking point.

Nancy Pelosi’s political acumen is well beyond most of us. She has an agenda that will remove Moscow Donnie and deliver a Democratic government in 2021. We can whine and bitch all we want but the current environment will not remove him from office.

Countdown to the usual suspects calling Speaker Pelosi weak, ineffective, and she should step down in 5…4…3…2…1…

Absolutely, just let him twist in the wind, as Pence looks on from the sidelines watching his chances as President slip away.

Pelosi refused to be hoisted by her own petard…

I think she’s wrong on this. Words in DC are like water on the ground. They evaporate with the next day’s sun, so she can change.

However, taking this argument at face value she’s simply incorrect. Who would you rather be going into the 2020 elections: A. The Dems, having conducted impeachment hearings which clearly show that Trump has committed high crimes and misdemeanors and should not be in office followed by a successful vote for impeachment in the House, or B. The GOP, who will defend the crook and keep him in office by denying votes in the Senate to remove him. I think the answer is clearly A. the Democrats. Each day we learn more and more why and how Trump is unfit for office and how he has continued to break the law and violate his oath of office. If the Dems take that stand have the goods to back it up, the public will reward them and their nominee. If they don’t take that stand, Trump looks like he can get away with it and that makes him look tougher. It also demolishes the value of the impeachment clause and the separation of powers.

Nancy is playing it too safe and isn’t rising to the call of history.

Impeachment is, among other things, a rather paralyzing process. I think one could make a strong argument it would be the right thing to do in an alternate universe where Trump was successfully tearing everything down and there were definitely not enough votes in the Senate to convict. The paralyzation would be a deliverable in and of itself.

The thing is, this administration is already paralyzed.

I dunno. I don’t think I’m a smarter political animal than Nancy Pelosi is.

Patience, young Skywalkers. We just don’t know yet what information is going to come out. As but one important example: what was on those audio recordings Michael Flynn talking to the Russians, and, moreover, what did Flynn say to when he cooperated with the Mueller investigation? Gear up for the battle to release the Mueller report, and we can take it from there.

I just have to assume that she knows MUCH more than we do about the entire litany of crimes committed by the Dotard, and she is simply biding her time on the impeachment case until Mueller’s case against the President has been sent to Congress. I think she’s right, that any attempt to convince the Republicans that he should be removed is futile unless the evidence against him is so overwhelming and severe that it cannot be denied. In the meantime, she’s removing a defensive talking point from the Republicans, and extending to them more rope for them to hang themselves around the Dotard’s neck. Again, these are my assumptions, but i also believe that when the time is right, she will not waste any effort or expense to drive the final nail into his coffin. Timing is everything.

Of all the words and labels we can apply, and laws and prosecutions he could possibly face, there is just one that I do believe will force him to make some sort of deal and resign… FORFEITURE.

He has no dignity, so he can’t be shamed out of office, he has no moral compass so he can’t be ridiculed out of office, and he has a woefully complicit Republican majority in the Senate so he can’t be impeached.

But he CAN be threatened with perpetual investigations into his dirty ruble business, and the forfeiture that goes along with it. He broadcast his profound guilt when he drew the red line in the sand that was a virtual confession of financial crimes.

Why draw that red line in the first place if he wasn’t guilty as hell?

Offer Trump a way out of inevitable forfeiture and he’ll take it.

Nothing else really matters to him, and the Senate Republicans know this is their very last hurrah, they aren’t about to give up what little power they still have by removing Trump from office.

This is why the NY State charges will devastate him the most, because there’s no pardon available, and those very charges go to the heart of Trump’s money malfeasance. Every dollar he barely owns was once a dirty ruble.

Manafort knows.
