“If Republicans are serious about rejecting white supremacy,” she said, “I call upon Speaker Ryan to join Democrats to remove the Confederate statues from the Capitol immediately.”

Nice work Nancy! Over to you Paul.

It’s time to get rid of all the Confederates in the White House, too, including the Imperial Orange Wizard.

It’s always shocking to have your liver handed to you on a plate, and you didn’t even notice the knife was being unsheathed.

Seriously, this new at the job stuff won’t fly any more. We want him impeached. Nancy’s my rep, BTW, I think the world of her. This polling was before Charlottesville.

Currently, four in ten (40%) Americans believe Trump deserves to be impeached, up 10 percentage points from 30% who expressed support for this action in February. A majority (53%) of Americans do not believe Trump should be impeached and removed from office, a view held by 65% of the public in February.”

@pshah We can only speculate about how bizarre it is chez McConnell what with the Lady Wife being in the administration and stories of Turtle himself fuming at the overlong photo op at the High Tower the other day where the wife didn’t get to speak about infrastructure as planned…

I think I spot the problem right there.

Remove Sessions, too. He’s the biggest confederate monument in DC.

I am not for venerating symbols of oppression and these statues do carry an offensive history – but I also see that an ill-considered rush to disappear them plays right into the narrative of trump and his racist base. This situation needs to be handled with some planning and imagination instead of sledgehammer. The simple action of hanging a plaque of shame around the necks each of the statues explaining honestly the history of who these people were and their negative deeds would be helpful and educational. Instead I see people loosing their minds and calling for an ill-liberal purging that is going to backfire on us.

Herein lies the problem. Ryan, McConnell and others know the energy in their Party comes from truly horrible people. And they lack the moral courage to do anything about it.

Trump, a white supremacist, is the culmination of over 50 years of the Southern Strategy. And it continues unabated even today. The statues are a symptom. Even if taken down, Republicans continue to deny blacks equal access to the right to vote thereby perpetuating a form of Jim Crow.

As an interim measure, have the traitor statues cut off at the knew and pose them kneeling before the statues of victorious non-confederates.

Thought he had to “wait for all information” before denouncing a "terrorist act.

Can we start with Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, please, Madame Speaker?

he didn’t go the usual route, yet. While his minions are being their usual ‘selves’, both he and Melania just sent out condolences.

Now its coming…but he prolly knows what’s coming after he sends out the usual Muslim bashing tweet.

Let the treasonous statues remain where they are, but sheath all of them in black drapery. The states have the right to put them there, but the Congress has the right to treat them as they should be. I expect Speaker Ryan and “Leader” McConnell to quickly agree with this and implement it. I expect to win the lottery this week, too.
